Swan 51 overview
The Swan 51 is a 16.90-metre performance-cruising sailing yacht designed by Germán Frers for Nautor Swan. It fills the space between the builder's smaller and larger cruising models with a platform intended to be manageable for an owner while still suitable for offshore passages. The design draws on feedback and experience from Swan yachts in neighbouring size classes, with an emphasis on balance, response under sail and practical cruising.
One of the most noticeable deck features is the wide-body cockpit arrangement. Nautor Swan says the usable cockpit width approaches that of a larger yacht while retaining workable side decks. Official specifications give an overall length of 16.90 metres, maximum beam of 4.85 metres and standard draft of 2.45 metres. A 2.05-metre shallow-draft option is also published. Light displacement is 18 tonnes. Auxiliary power comes from a Yanmar 4JH80 diesel rated at 80 hp.
Fuel capacity is 650 litres and water capacity 500 litres, figures that reflect the yacht's offshore-cruising brief rather than a purely coastal role. The moderate displacement and sail plan are intended to maintain sailing performance without making the yacht overly demanding for a small crew.

Frers moved the mast further toward the centre of the yacht to improve balance, while the hull and appendages are designed to keep the steering responsive. Lucio Micheletti is responsible for the exterior styling, combining the recognisable Swan coachroof language with a contemporary deck treatment. The overall approach is that of a genuine sailing yacht first, rather than a motor-yacht interior placed inside a sailing hull.
