Olbia becomes the new home of an island boat show
The Fiera Nautica di Sardegna will adopt the name Sardinia Boat Show and move from Porto Rotondo to central Olbia for its next edition, scheduled from 29 May to 6 June 2027. Organisers announced the change in early October during the Genoa International Boat Show.
The new site at Olbia Waterfront–Porto Vecchio is designed to provide more exhibition space ashore and afloat than the previous setting. It will allow the event to present complete boats alongside equipment and the manufacturing businesses that support the island's recreational marine industry.
Why the location matters to visiting buyers
Olbia is an important arrival point for travellers heading towards the Costa Smeralda and northeastern Sardinia. Its port, airport connections and access to established cruising grounds make the city a practical meeting place for yacht owners and marine businesses.
Visitors choosing a mid-size motor or sailing yacht may find it useful to combine a boat show visit with an assessment of regional marinas and service facilities. Berthing availability, seasonal traffic and maintenance support are all part of understanding what ownership around the island involves.
More emphasis on refit and manufacturing
The plan gives boatbuilding and production a central position while also including refit, repair, maintenance and related industrial services. The organisers want Sardinian yards and suppliers to meet international buyers and potential commercial partners rather than simply exhibit finished products.
For owners of 12-to-24-metre yachts, this broader supply chain is relevant because routine care often takes place close to a vessel's cruising base. Local access to skilled mechanics, composite specialists and electrical contractors can influence both operating cost and the time a boat remains unavailable.
Export and investment priorities
Cipnes Gallura, local authorities, Sardinian industrial organisations and the regional government have described the show as part of an internationalisation programme. The initiative aims to support exports by island companies while attracting manufacturers and investors considering a future local operation.
Dedicated areas are being planned for companies already active in Sardinia and for overseas businesses exploring industrial partnerships. The announcement outlines those intentions, but the identities of eventual exhibitors and investment commitments should be confirmed when official lists are released.
Training and future skills
The project involves UniOlbia and the University of Cagliari, which are expected to highlight technical education and new courses in naval and industrial engineering. An expanding marine sector requires technicians as well as designers, sales professionals and managers.
The link between education and boatbuilding can matter to owners in practical ways. Modern boats contain increasingly integrated electrical and propulsion systems, and technicians with appropriate training are essential for servicing them safely.
Dates timed for the start of the sailing season
The new dates fall near the beginning of Sardinia's busy boating period. Organisers also point to improved long-haul air connections, including routes to New York, as a reason to attract international visitors.
The 2027 show remains a future event, so admission arrangements, participating brands and in-water inventories may change. The confirmed news is the new identity, Olbia location and announced date range, which together indicate a move towards a more international marine-industry gathering.
