Ten days of boating on the Solent

The Southampton International Boat Show completed its 2026 edition on 27 September following ten days at Mayflower Park and its purpose-built marina. Organiser British Marine reported 91,160 visitors and more than 500 watercraft presented to customers and the wider marine trade.

The 57th edition included more than 25 world, UK and show debuts, alongside twenty launches of marine technology, equipment and gear. Those are organiser-supplied figures, not a count of yachts within a particular length category.

Visitor and product figures

Attendance indicates that the UK waterfront event continues to attract substantial public interest, despite challenging conditions facing parts of recreational boat retail. Exhibitors reported enquiries, orders and individual sales during the programme.

The association did not publish a total value for completed transactions, so aggregate revenue or an average number of sales per exhibitor should not be inferred. Buyers and commercial analysts should distinguish measured visitors from anecdotes about trading.

The role of boats on the water

An in-water boat show allows a visitor to inspect the circulation, berthing features and accommodation of yachts at various sizes. For the 12–23.99-metre sector, it can be useful to compare a sailing cruiser with a family motor yacht on the same day.

A dockside visit is not sufficient to assess a boat's range, helm comfort or behaviour at sea. Properly arranged trials and surveys are needed to understand the operating characteristics of individual vessels.

A strong marine services presence

The event included more than 110 talks, workshops and demonstrations and opportunities for thousands of people to get afloat. The broader activity supports interest in navigation, skills and traditional craftsmanship as well as the commercial display.

Learning opportunities can help newcomers develop better expectations about boat handling, safety and maintenance. A balanced show programme can therefore contribute to the ownership culture beyond the immediate sale of new boats.

Next year changes to eight days

British Marine has confirmed an eight-day Southampton International Boat Show for 18–25 September 2027. Fairline, Princess and Sunseeker have committed to participate, and Mayflower Park has been secured as the location for at least three years.

The revised format responds to exhibitor feedback about costs and concentrated visitor activity. Its future commercial results cannot be assessed in advance, although the announced commitments provide a foundation for planning.

What the results mean for owners

For prospective owners, the 2026 figures provide a snapshot of the UK's principal autumn boating event. Its value lies in access to manufacturers, technical specialists and experienced dealers within one waterfront location.

Buying decisions should continue beyond the show with written specifications, independent inspections and realistic financial planning. The next year's dates offer another opportunity to compare products without assuming that every model will be displayed.
