Tuiga closes the Mediterranean season with a class win
Yacht Club de Monaco’s 1909 gaff cutter Tuiga has won the Tradition class at the 28th Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The event ran from 26 September to 4 October and brought together more than 250 modern and classic sailing yachts.
Pierre Casiraghi skippered the club flagship with an unusually strong mixed-discipline crew that included America’s Cup winner Jimmy Spithill, offshore racer Boris Herrmann and Loïck Peyron. Tuiga remained near the front of the fleet throughout the week before finishing the regatta at the top of the class standings.
Classic racing mixed experience from several disciplines
The crew also included Rosalin Kuiper, Tom Dawson, Lorenzo De Felice and other sailors from offshore, foiling and grand-prix backgrounds. That mix illustrates how classic-yacht racing increasingly attracts professionals whose normal programmes sit at the leading edge of modern competitive sailing.
Tuiga recorded second places earlier in the week before carrying consistent form into the final day. She also took part in the Centenary Trophy, where the staggered-start format brought together yachts more than 100 years old over a dedicated pursuit course.
Classic fleets remain central to Saint-Tropez
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez combines modern maxi racing with some of the most historic sailing yachts still competing regularly. The event therefore links current professional sailing with a preservation culture that keeps century-old yachts active rather than treating them only as museum pieces.
For Yacht Club de Monaco, the class win adds another result to Tuiga’s role as the club’s historic flagship. The yacht is expected to remain active in the Mediterranean classic circuit ahead of Monaco Classic Week in 2027.
