A small gateway connects directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone
YachtLINK installs on a spare tee in the yacht’s existing NMEA 2000 network and draws its power from the backbone, so no separate supply or local display is required. YACHTWAVE says commissioning is handled through the mobile app by connecting the gateway to the boat or marina Wi-Fi network.
The device is sealed for below-deck fixed installation and is designed to operate headlessly after setup. For owners and installers, the attraction is that it can be added without creating another dedicated helm screen or running a separate data cable throughout the yacht.
Engine hours and tank levels can update automatically
Once connected, YachtLINK can read engine hours, running data, tank levels, GPS position and other information already being transmitted on the NMEA 2000 bus. Those readings can then feed the vessel’s YACHTWAVE record rather than relying on crew or owners to copy figures manually from instruments.
That matters for maintenance because many service intervals are tied directly to engine hours. Automatically recording real operating time can make maintenance reminders more accurate and reduce the risk that servicing is delayed simply because someone forgot to enter the latest reading.
Offline capture keeps data when the yacht loses Wi-Fi
YACHTWAVE says the gateway continues reading the network when internet connectivity is unavailable and stores the data locally. When the yacht reconnects, the accumulated information is uploaded in compressed batches so the historical record can be filled in rather than showing a gap.
That feature is particularly relevant to cruising yachts, which may spend long periods away from marina Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. A connected-management system is more useful if it can tolerate those interruptions instead of depending on continuous internet access.
IBEX will provide the first public launch
YachtLINK is scheduled to launch at IBEX in Tampa on October 6, with pre-order units due to ship later in the month. The product carries NMEA 2000 certification as well as FCC, CE and UKCA compliance, and YACHTWAVE lists a three-year limited warranty.
For LYG owners, the broader trend is toward tighter integration between onboard networks and ownership-management software. YachtLINK is one example of how data already generated by engines, tanks and sensors can be used for maintenance planning and remote oversight without adding another complex onboard system.
