A fresh supplier route for marine audio

SeaKing Boatbuilders in Leigh-on-Sea has become Rockford Marine UK through an agreement with Audiomotive, the exclusive UK distributor of Rockford Fosgate products. British Marine reported the move on 1 October 2026 as part of a wider expansion at SeaKing’s Essex waterfront yard. The company will work with boatbuilders, installers, designers, yards and private owners to develop access to the marine audio range.

The announcement is primarily about distribution and technical support, not the launch of a yacht eligible for Luxury Yacht Guide. For owners of 12-to-23.99-metre motor yachts, it is nevertheless relevant because robust outdoor sound systems demand careful installation and servicing, particularly where a cockpit is exposed to spray, sunlight and saltwater.

Why marine audio needs engineering

Installing loudspeakers on an exterior deck differs from creating a living-room system. Designers must account for water ingress, corrosion, heat, vibration and usable listening levels while underway. A reliable system also needs wiring and protection appropriate to the surrounding electrical installation. A specialist distributor may help boatyards source coherent equipment packages rather than assemble incompatible components.

Owners planning a refit should define listening zones and the relationship between cockpit, saloon and flybridge spaces before selecting individual speakers or amplifiers. More output power is not always the objective: even coverage, clear controls and a system that can be maintained without dismantling major joinery may matter much more over time.

Demonstration capability at Leigh-on-Sea

SeaKing has announced that its new 7MX will feature a Rockford Fosgate sound installation as the first large showcase for the relationship. That demonstration craft is seven metres long and therefore outside LYG yacht coverage; it is included here only as the supplier’s product showcase, not presented as a luxury-yacht launch. The company says it is expanding its in-house manufacturing and supply operation at the same waterfront address.

October also brings the launch of SeaKing Stores, combining chandlery, specialist equipment, materials and tools with the Rockford Marine UK operation. New manufacturing partnerships include xTool Professional and MetalFab, with equipment already installed at the yard. The supplier intends customers to see technology in working conditions rather than solely through catalogue photography.

What owners and yards should establish

Before specifying an audio refit, yacht owners should check the installer’s marine experience, the durability of each product in the intended location, source-device compatibility and the arrangements for warranty service. Integration with onboard networks and lighting or entertainment control should be tested separately from basic speaker performance. Audio systems are a comfort feature but must not obscure alarms or essential communications.

The Rockford Marine UK role is a distribution development whose commercial impact will become clearer as equipment reaches more projects. For buyers in the sub-24-metre sector, its immediate value is another specialist supply channel and an opportunity to assess equipment support within the United Kingdom. British Marine’s October release is the primary account of the agreement.
