Yacht Club de Monaco has announced a World Series structure for the 2027 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, with regional Energy Class qualifiers feeding a final in Port Hercule. The 14th main event is scheduled for 29 June to 3 July 2027, extending the project beyond a single summer meeting.

A route through regional qualification

The organiser’s 16 July announcement identifies Lake Como for a European qualifier and Darwin for an Asia-Pacific stage. The World Series is intended to increase access for teams while retaining Monaco as the final meeting point.

Places for the final are subject to the competition’s qualification rules rather than a general invitation. The programme is about Energy Class development and should not be described as a new production yacht series.

A working test environment

University teams, engineers and marine suppliers bring propulsion, storage and control ideas onto real boats for testing. The event covers electric, solar and hydrogen-related technologies, but each demonstrator has its own dimensions and duty cycle.

A successful trial in a small experimental craft does not establish that a larger yacht can use the same system unchanged. Owners and builders need vessel-specific energy and safety engineering before adopting any technology.

An event at Port Hercule

The 2027 final will run from 29 June through 3 July at Yacht Club de Monaco. Its public displays and competitive sessions allow visitors to see both practical engineering and the limitations imposed by equipment, weather and hull design.

The regional format may give more development teams access to performance feedback and supplier contacts. For the 12–23.99m sector, ideas about charging, efficient drive systems and controls are worth following without equating a racing benchmark with a commercial warranty.
