Regal moves from optional fitment to standard equipment
The collaboration began with Lightning interceptors offered as an option on larger Regal models. Humphree says customer response to the system was strong enough for the two companies to widen the programme, with the objective of installing the technology as standard equipment on every outboard-engine transom in the relevant Regal range.
Standard installation changes the ownership proposition because buyers no longer need to decide whether to specify the system individually. It also allows the builder to design installation, calibration and helm integration into the production process rather than treating the equipment as a later option with model-by-model variations.
The Ultimate configuration manages several boat movements
Regal has selected Humphree’s Ultimate configuration for the programme. The system continuously monitors pitch, roll, list and turn behaviour, then adjusts the interceptors automatically to manage running attitude as speed, loading and sea conditions change during a passage.
For owners, the aim is to reduce the amount of manual trim adjustment required at the helm while improving acceleration, comfort and efficiency. Automatic control is especially useful on larger outboard-powered boats, where passenger movement, fuel burn and changing wave direction can noticeably alter the ideal running angle.
Factory standardisation should simplify installation and support
Humphree says ease of installation and reliable delivery performance were important factors in expanding the relationship. The supplier will also train Regal staff in installation and system configuration, creating a more standardised process across the production line and reducing dependence on aftermarket commissioning.
That consistency can matter later in the boat’s life as well. A factory-defined installation gives dealers and service technicians a known baseline for diagnostics, software configuration and replacement parts, while remote support can be applied to systems that have been installed according to the same agreed production method.
The agreement widens Humphree’s reach in premium powerboats
Humphree describes the Regal partnership as an important step into a higher-volume segment of the leisure market. Regal’s outboard portfolio spans premium sport boats and cruisers, giving the interceptor system exposure to owners who may previously have associated active trim and stabilization technology mainly with larger yachts.
For luxury-yacht buyers, the broader trend is clear: automated motion control is moving steadily down through the size range and becoming integrated at the factory rather than added after delivery. That can make advanced ride-control systems feel less like optional equipment and more like part of the expected technical specification.
