The useful car for a boating weekend is often the one that can handle the luggage, the road to the marina and a detour into the countryside. Jeep opened UK orders on 15 September for the new Compass fully electric 4xe and plug-in hybrid versions, adding several powertrain options to its mid-sized SUV.
Distinct powertrain options
The fully electric 4xe uses all-wheel drive and is listed with up to 372 miles of WLTP range in the UK release. The plug-in hybrid is advertised with up to 50 miles of electric travel, while e-Hybrid and front-wheel-drive electric variants complete the wider Compass offer.
Those range figures reflect the manufacturer’s test conditions. Carrying passengers, using roof equipment and driving in adverse weather can reduce the distance between charges or increase fuel consumption.
Pricing and equipment
Jeep’s UK announcement lists the full-electric 4xe from £45,200 on the road and the plug-in hybrid from £37,330 at release. Prices, financing terms and optional features can change and should be checked against a current local offer.
A four-wheel-drive badge can help with certain road conditions, but it does not confer permission to drive on protected beaches or replace appropriate tyres, judgement and recovery planning. Owners should compare the actual vehicle specification before ordering.
Practicality away from a yacht
A mid-size SUV may serve a couple or family moving from an 18–23.99m yacht to a nearby hotel, hill walk or coastal restaurant. An electric model can suit that use when destination charging is available, while a plug-in hybrid offers another arrangement for longer travel.
Transporting heavy boating gear or towing any trailer calls for its own weight calculation. Nothing in the Compass announcement implies it can tow a full-size luxury yacht.
A model range, not a marina service
The Compass release is about passenger vehicles and does not introduce a yacht-specific shore-power or transport service. The relevant marina's charging and parking arrangements must be confirmed separately.
