A single display can reduce helm clutter
Smartgyro says a compatible multifunction display can provide full monitoring and operation of the stabilization system while the dedicated Smartgyro display remains installed close to the equipment for local control and maintenance. This arrangement can reduce the number of separate control panels required at the main helm.
That matters on yachts in the LYG sector because helm design is often a compromise between visibility, navigation equipment, engine displays, switching and comfort controls. Consolidating stabilization onto the primary MFD gives designers and refit teams more freedom while keeping the information accessible to the person actually operating the yacht.
Ethernet and HTML5 provide the standard connection
The standard connection uses Ethernet and an HTML5-based application running on the yacht's MFD. Smartgyro says compatible systems automatically detect the stabilizer once both devices are connected to the same network, adding a Smartgyro application icon to the display rather than requiring a separate navigation workflow.
The company also supports deeper integration through its SG CANBUS communication protocol. That approach allows participating display manufacturers to maintain a continuous connection and present important alarms directly on the MFD, which can be more useful than an application that must remain open for routine monitoring.
Garmin, Raymarine and Navico families are supported
Smartgyro lists compatibility with a broad range of Garmin GPSMAP displays, including the 9000, 8400 and 8600 families, together with several x3 and x2 Plus series units. Raymarine support includes Axiom and Axiom 2 displays running compatible LightHouse 4 software, while Navico-brand support covers selected Simrad, Lowrance and B&G products.
For owners considering a retrofit, the practical detail is that the required cabling varies between brands. Garmin installations may connect directly or use a BlueNet adapter, Raymarine systems can require RayNet-to-RJ45 hardware, and Navico products use their own Ethernet adapter arrangement. Compatibility therefore needs to be checked against the exact display already fitted.
Up to three stabilizers can be managed from the helm
Smartgyro states that owners can monitor and control as many as three stabilizers from a compatible MFD. Status information, operating data and alerts can therefore be brought into the same screen environment used for navigation, radar and other onboard functions, reducing the need to move between dedicated interfaces.
The development reflects a wider shift toward integrated yacht systems. Stabilization is no longer treated only as machinery hidden below deck; it is increasingly part of the vessel's live operational picture. For owner-operated yachts, bringing that information to the helm can make the system easier to understand, monitor and use consistently.
