A traditional silhouette at Port Vell

The Menorquín 42 is among the vessels listed for Barcelona International Boat Show from 14 to 18 October 2026. Sasga Yachts gives the current Menorquín 42 Hard Top an overall length of 13.99 metres and a four-metre beam. It offers a very different visual character from the sharp-edged open sports yachts displayed nearby, taking design inspiration from the classic Balearic llaüt.

Sasga builds in Menorca and describes its boats as intended for comfortable, unhurried Mediterranean cruising. Traditional exterior proportions do not mean the yacht avoids modern systems. The real appeal is a familiar-looking shape combined with current propulsion, navigation equipment and accommodation expectations.

Cruising speed rather than maximum power

The builder quotes a top speed of about 23 knots and cruising speed up to 19 knots for the 42 HT. The published 1,200-litre fuel capacity and 500-litre freshwater tank indicate that the yacht is designed for more than a quick run to a neighbouring beach. Those figures must still be interpreted against actual displacement, conditions and consumption.

Maximum range cannot be inferred reliably from tank volume alone. Owners planning travel between islands should examine fuel reserve policy and ask for measured consumption at likely cruising speeds. Manoeuvring characteristics at idle and visibility through the saloon glazing deserve equal attention, particularly for a yacht often handled by a couple.

Accommodation and sheltered social space

A principal distinction is the main-deck saloon behind retractable glazing, allowing an interior environment that can either connect to the cockpit or close against cooler or windier weather. Sasga advertises two substantial double cabins, two bathrooms and optional additional sleeping arrangements depending on the layout. The cabin plan should be inspected against the actual delivered specification.

The protected cockpit and bow area provide different settings for relaxing outside. On a working yacht, the way those spaces link to the wheelhouse, galley and side decks is important. Owners should also check ventilation on warm days and visibility while operating with the glazing in its different positions.

The value of a realistic comparison

The Menorquín 42 HT will appeal most to buyers who value a substantial enclosed saloon and a relaxed passagemaking style over extreme speed. It should be compared with planing yachts on service access, stability, maintenance and the comfort of the accommodation rather than on sport-boat acceleration alone.

The 2026 catalogue confirms an exhibition entry, not a world premiere. A prudent buyer should obtain the precise construction and equipment specification, identify any optional cabin arrangements and complete a sea trial. Menorca’s boatbuilding heritage is an appealing backdrop, while day-to-day practicality must carry the final decision. The builder also identifies Category A certification for its current Menorquín range, although certification details and loading conditions should be checked against the exact boat. Owners considering an island itinerary should ask how the yacht handles when conditions deteriorate and where safe diversion ports are available.
