New applications invited for 2027
Marine Futures has opened applications for the 2027 MarineShift360 Impact Accelerator, a ten-month programme supporting marine businesses that want to reduce environmental impact. The organisers published the new call in October, seeking teams with practical projects and a willingness to share their results.
The programme is funded by 11th Hour Racing and offered without a participant fee. It is intended to help businesses make evidence-based decisions about design, materials, manufacturing and purchasing rather than relying solely on sustainability claims.
Lifecycle assessment at the centre
Participants are offered specialist support with lifecycle assessment, environmental strategy, supply chains and material selection. They also receive access to the MarineShift360 tool, which can compare the environmental implications of different products and processes.
For yachtbuilders, such analysis can examine areas beyond fuel consumption during operation. Composite materials, manufacturing energy, replacement components, refit practices and eventual disposal may all contribute to a vessel's overall footprint.
Previous projects span several sectors
The organisers point to earlier work involving RNLI lifeboats, BAR Technologies, composite specialist Gurit, electric-hydrofoil developer MobyFly and recyclable-composite firm nlcomp. Those examples illustrate the programme's interest in both complete craft and component-level solutions.
However, the existence of an accelerator project should not be confused with proof that an emerging technology has achieved large-scale commercial success. Its value depends on documented results and methods that other marine businesses can scrutinise.
Internships and peer collaboration
Selected organisations receive tailored technical assistance and a funded internship, alongside access to a community of specialists and suppliers. Participants are expected to devote internal staff time to their project and explain the lessons learned publicly.
The selection process considers environmental benefit, project distinctiveness, team commitment and the need for external expertise. A company does not qualify merely by stating an interest in greener products; it must show a credible plan for work it can carry out.
Deadline and programme timetable
Applications close on 31 December 2026, and the organisers plan interviews during January before announcing selected teams by the end of that month. The programme is expected to begin in February 2027.
The announcement may be relevant to builders, refit businesses and yacht equipment suppliers exploring lower-impact solutions. The 2027 cohort and its actual outcomes are not yet known, so this report concerns the application opportunity rather than results that have not occurred.
