New leadership for yacht brokerage systems
The International Yacht Brokers Association has named Julian Gowing as its digital services lead. The appointment, announced in October 2026, places him in charge of helping brokers use the association's online platforms and supporting services more effectively.
IYBA's digital offering includes Yachtr, Yachtbroker.org and Boatdox.org. These systems serve different parts of the yacht brokerage workflow, from sharing vessel information to organising documentation and supporting cooperation between firms.
Experience across marine sales technology
The association says Gowing has more than sixteen years' experience in marine digital services and around three decades working in the marine industry. His work has involved travel across North America and direct engagement with dealers, yacht brokers and related businesses.
IYBA chief operating officer Paul Flannery highlighted the combination of technical expertise and established industry relationships. The appointment is a change in responsibility, not an announcement that all three services have merged into one application.
Listings, documents and communications
Yacht brokerage teams often publish the same boat on multiple portals while keeping documents and enquiries in separate systems. Inaccurate or outdated vessel details can create problems for buyers when length, equipment, ownership information or asking prices do not match.
Digital services can help reduce repeated manual work, but a listings platform is only as reliable as its underlying records. Brokers still need procedures for checking original specifications, confirming availability and maintaining the accuracy of public descriptions.
Collaboration across yacht brokers
According to IYBA, its digital tools cover shared listings, marketing support, co-brokerage services and documentation. For members, having a knowledgeable point of contact may help with setup, training and everyday questions about how to use those services.
Gowing has said his role includes helping members with digital marketing, listing management and document workflows. That statement describes his planned support remit rather than a quantified improvement in sales or efficiency already achieved.
Implications for buyers and sellers
Digital systems increasingly influence how luxury yachts reach prospective buyers, but they do not replace surveys, legal due diligence or clear professional responsibilities. Listing syndication and electronic signatures can support a transaction without independently verifying the underlying vessel.
For owners considering a sale, the appointment highlights the importance of broker infrastructure and responsive service. Further announcements about platform features or measurable performance should be evaluated separately when IYBA publishes confirmed details.
