A crossing with a teaching purpose
BALI Catamarans has documented a westbound voyage by the BALI 4.6 TEN, which set off from Hyères after a summer cruising the Mediterranean. The planned programme covers almost 4,400 nautical miles, initially to the Canary Islands and then across the Atlantic to Martinique.
The crossing has been arranged by Hyères dealer Tenor Yachts with Philisa sailing school, part of the same group. Instead of being an ordinary yacht delivery, the passage gives two successive crews practical offshore training.
The manufacturer's account was published on 20 September, and it reports TEN having cast off for the first leg. It does not say that the Atlantic passage has already been completed.
A first stage to the Canaries
Five trainees are assigned to the first leg of around 1,400 nautical miles between southern France and the Canary Islands. They will gain experience in offshore routines, watch systems and the slower pace of life away from a marina.
Experienced skipper and instructor Philippe Corre leads the programme, bringing twelve Atlantic crossings to the role according to BALI. His task combines safe passage-making with practical teaching rather than merely moving the boat to its destination.
The stop in the Canaries provides a point to review equipment and provision for the longer crossing. A separate crew of six trainees is due to join for the approximately 3,000-nautical-mile trade-wind leg.
Preparing for the Atlantic leg
Before departure, the yacht underwent checks on rigging, electronics, sails and engines. Students also participate in meal planning and management of water, energy and stores, which become central considerations during a multiweek crossing.
The school plans instruction in sail trim, navigation, weather analysis and night watches. Those subjects are important even aboard a modern catamaran with a generous interior and automated systems.
TEN was launched earlier in 2026 and spent the summer cruising around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and Ajaccio. Her intended Atlantic voyage gives the owner and training group a different use of the same vessel.
The yacht and its cruising role
The BALI 4.6 is 14.33 metres overall in Luxury Yacht Guide's database and is firmly inside the site's length remit. Its forward cockpit and opening main-deck layout create usable communal areas, although offshore safety still depends on preparation and seamanship.
