Garmin has expanded the JL Audio M-series with new M200 marine speakers and subwoofers aimed at owners who want a simpler route to durable onboard audio without moving immediately into the brand’s higher-priced systems. The range includes 6.5-inch and 7.7-inch speakers plus a 10-inch subwoofer, with pricing starting below many premium multi-zone installations.
The speakers use a one-inch edge-driven silk-dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet and are rated for up to 60 watts RMS, while the subwoofer handles 250 watts RMS. Garmin also integrates RGB lighting support and offers white or grey grilles to help the hardware fit different yacht interiors and exterior entertainment areas.
Marine construction is central to the range
Garmin says the M200 series uses marine-grade materials, corrosion-resistant connections and finishes designed to withstand salt and sun exposure. That matters because speakers installed in cockpits, flybridges and foredecks face ultraviolet light, spray and temperature swings that domestic audio equipment is not designed to tolerate.
Durability should still be considered at installation level because cable routing, drainage and enclosure design can determine whether a nominally marine component lasts. Poorly sealed connections can undermine even well-protected speakers.
Retrofit dimensions simplify upgrades
The speaker design uses standard cutout sizes and mounting patterns, making the M200 range easier to install in place of older marine speakers. For owners, that can reduce labour and avoid reworking finished panels simply to accommodate a different mounting footprint.
Retrofit compatibility is especially useful on production yachts where interior joinery and moulded exterior panels are expensive to alter. A direct replacement path can make an audio refresh practical during routine refit work rather than requiring a larger cosmetic project.
Lighting connects with Garmin’s wider ecosystem
RGB illumination can be controlled through Garmin Spectra or Lumishore lighting modules when paired with compatible equipment. That allows colour and effects to be coordinated from chartplotters or the ActiveCaptain app instead of requiring a separate lighting interface.
Integrated lighting is a lifestyle feature rather than a navigation function, but it illustrates how entertainment systems are becoming part of the yacht’s wider digital environment. Owners benefit most when integration reduces duplicated controls rather than simply adding more apps and network dependencies.
The series targets value as well as performance
Garmin lists suggested retail prices from $199.99 to $349.99 across the M200 range. That positioning gives boatbuilders and refit owners a mid-market option that retains JL Audio branding and marine protection while leaving room above it for higher-output systems.
For a yacht owner, the real result will depend on amplifier matching, speaker placement and acoustic design as much as the drivers themselves. The M200 launch nevertheless gives the 12-to-24-metre market another credible option for upgrading exterior and interior audio without a full custom system.
