The 60 is built around expedition protection
Garcia describes the Exploration 60 around an aluminium hull, centreboard, sheltered cockpit and a design philosophy that treats safety and self-sufficiency as part of the core architecture. The yacht is intended to operate from high latitudes through to tropical anchorages without changing its fundamental operating model.
That is important because expedition capability is often marketed through equipment lists. Garcia instead ties hull material, protected watchkeeping, access, insulation and onboard systems together so the yacht can remain usable when conditions become uncomfortable or support is distant.
Interior volume is assigned to technical use as well as comfort
The yacht includes a panoramic saloon alongside dedicated technical areas, a workshop and a laundry. These spaces may appear less glamorous than guest cabins, but on a long voyage they can make the difference between a yacht that remains operational and one that becomes dependent on shore-side intervention.
For private owners travelling with a small crew, technical space also reduces conflict with living space. Tools, spares and maintenance work can be kept away from the principal accommodation instead of gradually taking over lockers and guest areas.
Small-crew handling remains central to the design
Garcia says the Exploration 60 is intended to remain manageable with a reduced crew. That goal influences deck layout, protection and systems because the people sailing the boat may also be responsible for navigation, maintenance, cooking and watchkeeping over long periods.
This keeps the 60 firmly aligned with LYG's owner-focused market. It is a substantial yacht with expedition capability, but it does not require the permanent professional operating structure associated with larger superyachts.
Cannes gives buyers a chance to test the practical scale
An 18-metre yacht can look imposing in photographs, but an in-water show allows owners to judge boarding, cockpit protection, sightlines, deck movement and how much technical volume has been created below. Those practical details determine whether the boat feels manageable once the show finishes.
Garcia also used Cannes to present the rest of its 45-to-60-foot range. The Exploration 60 therefore acts as the upper end of a family that remains entirely within LYG's 12.00-to-23.99-metre boundary.
