Electrical industry conference returns

British Marine will hold its Electrical & Electronics Conference on Thursday 25 February 2027 at Audleys Wood Hotel in Basingstoke. The association confirmed the details on 15 October, with registration open following a two-year gap since the previous conference.

Manufacturers, distributors, installers, boatbuilders, technical consultants and surveyors are among the intended participants. The meeting is designed to connect technical learning with business and workforce issues in the wider leisure-marine industry.

Small-craft standards and electrical power

Sessions will examine regulatory updates and new electrical standards affecting smaller craft. British Marine also lists hybrid power and solar energy among the themes expected to draw attention.

These subjects are increasingly relevant to owners whose yachts rely on more complex battery, charging and hotel-power systems. Installation decisions require a detailed understanding of protection, cable arrangements and the interaction between equipment from different manufacturers.

Artificial intelligence joins the programme

The conference programme also plans to address applications of artificial intelligence in marine businesses. The event positions the subject alongside innovation and design rather than presenting AI as a substitute for practical electrical inspection.

Software may assist with technical documentation and routine analysis, but the actual condition of a vessel still needs to be verified. Qualified installers and surveyors remain essential when addressing safe wiring, fault protection and equipment compatibility.

Skills development for marine technicians

A dedicated session will examine the Certified Electrical Training Pathway and the options for people progressing beyond British Marine Electrical Technician training. Employers will also have an opportunity to understand qualifications that could support workforce development.

The conference is scheduled for 09:00 to 17:00 and includes sessions and networking. British Marine lists Marine Rescue Technologies as its headline sponsor for the one-day event.

Tickets, booking and relevance

British Marine has advertised member tickets at £75 plus VAT and non-member tickets at £125 plus VAT. Registration is scheduled to close on 20 November 2026, so interested delegates should refer to the official booking information.

Yacht owners are not the event's primary audience, but its technical focus may affect the quality of professional services on which they depend. Reports of speaker conclusions should await the conference rather than being assumed from advance programme descriptions.
