The award focused on usable innovation rather than novelty

The Miami Innovation Award is decided by a specialist judging panel from Boating Writers International working with the National Marine Manufacturers Association. Azimut says the judges recognised the Seadeck 7 as a package in which propulsion, materials and layout work together rather than as isolated technology demonstrations.

That matters in the LYG segment because buyers rarely want experimental systems for their own sake. New technology has to improve day-to-day ownership, whether through lower fuel use, quieter operation, easier access to the water or more flexible living space.

Hybrid IPS allows short-range electric operation

The Seadeck 7 uses Volvo Penta hybrid-electric IPS technology that can support fully electric navigation over short distances and zero-emission hotel mode at anchor. Azimut combines the drivetrain with extensive carbon-fibre use and systems intended to reduce energy demand across a normal season.

Owners therefore gain more than a headline hybrid label. Electric manoeuvring and quiet anchoring can materially change how the yacht feels in marinas and bays, while lower hotel loads reduce the amount of generator time needed when the yacht is being used as a private residence.

The Fun Island changes the relationship with the stern

Alberto Mancini's Fun Island concept opens the aft deck toward the water and creates a sea-level social zone instead of treating the transom mainly as a barrier or tender-handling area. Large openings then connect this exterior space with the main-deck interior.

For a 21.7-metre yacht, that approach makes the available volume feel larger without adding length. It also suits owners who use the yacht primarily for warm-weather cruising, where swimming, watersports and outdoor dining often define the day more than time spent inside.

The Seadeck 7 remains firmly inside LYG territory

At 21.70 metres overall, the Seadeck 7 sits comfortably below the 24-metre boundary used for LYG coverage. It offers four guest cabins plus crew accommodation while still belonging to the private luxury-yacht market rather than the larger superyacht category.

The award is therefore relevant not only as industry recognition, but as evidence that hybrid propulsion and low-impact design are moving into a size range where private owners can adopt them directly. The next test will be long-term reliability and owner satisfaction after sustained use.
