Ameritool Manufacturing is preparing its American-made 316 stainless-steel gas springs and dampers for IBEX 2026, the boatbuilding trade event in Tampa on 6–8 October. The range is intended for builders specifying marine hatches, lids, machinery covers and other moving panels.

While less visible than a yacht's engines or electronics, these components influence how safely crew can access equipment and stowage. The manufacturer's catalogue distinguishes lift assistance from damping, making correct sizing important for both new builds and replacement work.

Hatches depend on small components

A gas spring can provide force to help lift or support a heavy hatch, while a damper controls the speed of movement. Selecting one solely because it resembles an existing component can result in unsuitable force or travel.

Ameritool lists fixed-force, adjustable-force and tension designs, with products for different loading arrangements. Its marine offering uses corrosion-resistant stainless materials suited to exposed operating locations.

Specification includes the fittings

The supplier also sells brackets, ball studs and end fittings that form part of the complete mechanism. Their geometry, attachment and expected load must match the hatch design rather than being treated as interchangeable accessories.

Stainless construction does not eliminate maintenance, cleaning or the need to inspect for damage. A crew should also be able to access critical equipment safely if a support component fails.

Builders meet the supplier in Tampa

The IBEX exhibitor release lists Ameritool's appearance, and the event takes place at the Tampa Convention Center from 6 to 8 October 2026. The supplier says it can manufacture custom solutions as well as standard components for repeat boatbuilding programmes.
