The second-generation Pure X yacht appears at Barcelona

The X4.9 MkII is included in Barcelona International Boat Show's on-water fleet for 14–18 October 2026, with the organiser listing a length of 15.34 metres and a beam of 4.49 metres. It offers a different sailing proposition from the manufacturer's offshore-focused Xc 47, although both boats fit squarely in LYG's yacht-size sector. This year's exhibition gives buyers an opportunity to examine the MkII rather than relying only on the earlier X4.9's reputation.

X-Yachts introduced the first X4.9 in 2018, and the yard describes the MkII as the result of lessons gathered across the Pure X family. Its updates are not merely decorative, with changes affecting hull form, appendages and details that owners interact with frequently.

An updated hull and rudder

The maker says the revised X4.9 carries a new hull profile, adjusted rudder and lower weight, alongside an altered deck and cabin appearance. The claimed objective is improved performance with the same commitment to a comfortable cruising interior. Those are manufacturer design goals, and measured gains should be assessed through appropriate sea trials rather than assumed from the word 'new'.

Sailors should ask how any performance change affects handling at ordinary cruising speeds and with a reduced crew, not just at racing angles. When comparing the MkII to an earlier example, sail inventories, keel and rig choices can make substantial differences to the experience.

Cockpit ergonomics and a brighter cabin

The boat's redesign includes attention to cockpit coamings, winch positions and deck equipment, with styling changes around its side windows intended to admit more natural light below. These features can influence both ease of operation and the pleasantness of time spent aboard. On a yacht used for extended coastal cruising, small improvements in daylight or access may be noticed every day.

A boat-show inspection should include sitting at both steering positions, checking sight lines to sail controls and walking the route forward. The lower deck should be examined with cabin doors open and closed, because actual movement and privacy are more revealing than a photograph of a perfectly arranged saloon.

A performance cruiser in a broad show selection

The X4.9 MkII is aimed at buyers who want the feel of a responsive sailing yacht without abandoning family comfort. That balance may differ from the priorities of a purely racing boat or a heavier long-range cruiser. A prospective owner should clarify whether the exhibit carries a particular keel, propulsion arrangement or cabin option before judging it against catalogue specifications.

Barcelona's 2026 list gives the model visibility among a large fleet of sailing yachts and catamarans. Its distinguishing news value is the chance to inspect the updated Pure X design in person, with the builder's official model information providing technical background and final purchase details to be confirmed directly.
