Centouno Navi’s new 16.5-metre Vespro 55 has completed commissioning and sea trials with a Smartgyro SG20, recording up to 83% roll reduction according to Smartgyro. The installation pairs gyroscopic stabilisation with a high-performance walkaround yacht capable of a claimed 56 knots.

The Vespro 55 combines lightweight composite construction with waterjet propulsion and a performance-led hull form. At this end of the market, owners expect acceleration and speed without accepting excessive roll when the yacht slows, drifts or sits at anchor.

That makes stabilisation a useful counterpoint to the yacht’s performance specification rather than an unrelated luxury feature.

Commissioning produced a measurable roll-reduction figure

Smartgyro reports that the SG20 installation achieved up to 83% roll reduction during commissioning and sea trials. As with any stabilisation figure, the result depends on sea state, loading and test conditions, but it provides a concrete reference for the system’s effect on this hull.

For prospective buyers, measured results on the actual model are more meaningful than generic performance claims because they reflect the installation, weight distribution and hull behaviour of the finished yacht.

The SG20 avoids external stabiliser surfaces

Gyroscopic stabilisers work inside the hull rather than using fins that project into the water. This can appeal on fast yachts where designers want to avoid additional underwater appendages or where the vessel frequently operates in shallow marinas and close-quarters environments.

The trade-off is machinery-space volume, electrical demand, cooling and service access, all of which need to be considered during the design stage rather than treated as an aftermarket detail.

Further hulls are already following the first installation

Smartgyro says additional Vespro 55 hulls are under construction and that further stabiliser units have already been ordered for upcoming deliveries. That suggests the first installation is becoming part of the model’s production approach rather than remaining a one-off demonstrator.
