Torqeedo is expanding its Watercare programme around both practical clean-up activity and the use of recycled materials in production propulsion hardware. The initiative includes a partnership with everwave for a clean-up action on Munich’s Isar while the latest Cruise and Travel components move recycled marine plastic into serial production.
Watercare links clean-up activity with product design
The company says Watercare is intended to connect responsible use of waterways with the way marine products are engineered. Its work with everwave uses clean-up technology and AI-supported approaches to remove plastic and other waste, giving the programme a practical environmental component alongside product development.
Cruise components move to recycled plastic
In the latest Cruise 3.0 and 6.0 48V models, Torqeedo says up to 95% of the plastic components in the shaft-head assembly are made from recycled marine plastic. That matters because these are production parts expected to meet normal durability and performance requirements rather than decorative components with little mechanical responsibility.
Travel propeller enters series production
The orange three-blade propeller used in the Travel family is also being produced from recycled plastic waste intercepted before it can reach the ocean. Torqeedo says the material is processed into granulate and tested against the same technical standards as conventional material before it is accepted for use.
Circularity becomes part of propulsion engineering
For yacht owners, the direct performance benefit may be less visible than a new motor or battery, but material choices affect the life-cycle footprint of marine equipment. Torqeedo’s approach is notable because it treats circularity as a repeatable engineering process, not just a one-off clean-up campaign attached to a product launch.
