The control package is designed as one system
Nanni’s approach brings the lever, joystick and engine display together instead of treating each helm component as an isolated accessory. The company says this makes the relationship between engine response and user input more predictable for owners moving between normal cruising and close-quarters manoeuvring.
That integration is valuable on mid-size yachts where the owner may spend significant time at the helm. A consistent interface can reduce the mental load during docking, especially when wind and current change quickly or when the yacht is being handled by different family members.
ZF-developed joystick functions extend beyond docking
The joystick can be paired with ZF’s iAnchor and iDrift functions. iAnchor is designed to hold position and heading, while iDrift allows controlled drift speed and direction, adding useful low-speed tools for waiting, fishing or managing the yacht in constrained water.
These functions are increasingly common expectations on modern motor yachts because owners value confidence as much as outright propulsion power. The ability to manage a yacht precisely can make a larger boat feel less intimidating and may reduce dependence on additional crew for routine harbour work.
SI-5 keeps engine information visible at the helm
The SI-5 digital dashboard presents essential engine data in the same control environment. Nanni’s objective is to give owners a clearer view of the propulsion system without forcing them to work through several unrelated displays during normal operation.
A simplified information hierarchy can also make fault recognition easier. Owners still need professional diagnosis for technical problems, but clear alerts and consistent engine data can help them identify when something has changed before a minor issue develops into a more disruptive failure.
Existing Nanni installations may be upgradeable
Nanni says Nova is not limited to new engines because many current installations can be assessed for retrofit through the dealer network. Compatibility depends on the specific engine and control architecture, so owners need a technical check before planning an upgrade.
That retrofit route is important in the LYG market, where many yachts remain mechanically sound for years while helm electronics age more quickly. Updating controls can improve the ownership experience without requiring an unnecessary engine replacement or major structural refit.
