Marina Port Vell has added Biras Marina on Virgin Gorda to its operating platform, marking its first move beyond the Mediterranean. The British Virgin Islands marina sits in North Sound and is being positioned as a private Caribbean destination connected to the Biras Creek resort.
The marina offers 25 berths and 20 mooring buoys, with accommodation for yachts up to 70 metres. Although its largest berths are aimed at superyachts, the destination is also relevant to smaller luxury yachts cruising the British Virgin Islands.
A Caribbean extension of the Barcelona model
Marina Port Vell is best known for its Barcelona base, where it operates as a full-service marina close to the city centre. The Biras project takes that operational experience into a very different setting focused on privacy, nature and resort-style hospitality.
The move broadens the group's geographic footprint while giving Biras access to an established marina-management platform. Owners can expect the practical services of a professionally operated facility without losing the more secluded character of Virgin Gorda.
Twenty-five berths and twenty moorings
Biras Marina lists 25 berths plus 20 mooring buoys, allowing it to serve visiting yachts both alongside and in the surrounding water. The published maximum yacht length is 70 metres, while the wider North Sound area already supports a substantial mix of sailing yachts, motor yachts and charter traffic.
For yachts below 24 metres, the combination of formal berthing and mooring options can be particularly useful during high-season cruising. It gives owners more choice between dockside access and a quieter stay away from the quay.
Virgin Gorda remains a major cruising destination
North Sound provides sheltered water with access to several islands, anchorages and resorts within a relatively compact cruising area. That makes it well suited to owners who prefer short passages between destinations rather than long open-water legs.
The British Virgin Islands are also an established charter market, so marina infrastructure has to serve privately owned yachts alongside managed and commercial fleets. Biras adds another high-service option within that network.
Marina groups are becoming destination platforms
The transaction reflects a wider trend in which marina operators are expanding beyond individual facilities and building networks across different cruising regions. For owners, a recognised operating brand can make standards of service, booking and support more predictable when moving between destinations.
Biras is a relatively small marina by berth count, but its location gives the expansion strategic weight. It places Marina Port Vell directly inside one of the Caribbean's best-known yacht-cruising areas and gives the group a base outside its traditional Mediterranean market.
