Jeanneau takes compact cruisers to the Docklands
Jeanneau is welcoming visitors to its display at the Melbourne Boat Show in Victoria, held from 15 to 18 October 2026. The manufacturer’s official event listing identifies four small Merry Fisher variants at the Docklands waterfront, giving local boaters a chance to view different layouts in person.
The selection comprises the Merry Fisher 605, Merry Fisher 695, Merry Fisher 795 and Merry Fisher 695 Sport. These are compact leisure cruisers rather than superyachts, designed for owners who want manageable handling and flexible family use in coastal and protected-water settings.
Having several closely related boats on display offers a practical opportunity to compare cabin space, access around the helm and how social areas convert when travelling with children or friends. Visitors should not assume that all optional fittings are standard on every boat in the same model family.
The Merry Fisher 605 offers a smaller entry point
The Merry Fisher 605 is at the compact end of Jeanneau’s enclosed pilothouse range, combining a protected steering position with the ability to undertake short leisure trips. For owners who sometimes launch or manoeuvre without an experienced crew, simple circulation and clear lines of sight can be particularly important.
Prospective buyers should consider actual towing, launching and storage arrangements before selecting a smaller craft, since local road limits and marina policies can change the practical ownership cost. The dimensions of an individual boat must always be checked against its trailer, engine package and intended storage position.
A short demonstration in a sheltered marina can establish how comfortable the helm feels and how easily passengers can move into the cockpit. It should not be treated as a substitute for evaluating the vessel in the sea conditions the owner is likely to encounter regularly.
The 695 and 795 introduce more options
The Merry Fisher 695 represents another family-oriented alternative, offering the established enclosed cruiser format with accommodation suitable for short coastal excursions. The 795 provides a larger hull and potentially more comfortable living space for owners expecting to spend longer aboard.
Comparison should go beyond the nominal model number to consider berth dimensions, galley provisions, bathroom access, cabin ventilation and how quickly the interior can be prepared for guests. An arrangement that looks attractive on a show stand may have different strengths when used for an overnight voyage.
For family cruising, weather protection can be central to enjoyment, but it remains essential to consider safe deck access and ventilation in warmer Australian conditions. Owners should also review the suitability of the proposed engine package for the waters and distances they intend to cover.
A sporty alternative in the Merry Fisher 695 Sport
The 695 Sport appears on the official line-up as a more activity-focused interpretation of the compact leisure boat concept. Its appeal may be strongest for crews who prioritise easy access to watersports, angling equipment or gear for an active day afloat.
The trade-off between open deck utility and enclosed accommodation varies across the range, so a direct viewing of the Sport model beside the conventional 695 can be especially informative. Equipment positioning, drainage, boarding arrangements and stowage should all be considered in relation to the intended use.
Jeanneau advises visitors to request an invitation or arrange a viewing at the Melbourne event, and the listed display closes on 18 October. Those unable to attend should seek current Australian dealer specifications rather than assuming that imported boats in other countries carry identical equipment and warranty packages.
