Icom UK will use the 2026 Southampton International Boat Show to give British boat owners an exclusive preview of two forthcoming marine communications products: the IC-M430 fixed VHF and MA-600TRBB Class B+ AIS transponder. Both address equipment that tends to be installed for years rather than seasons, so the important questions are integration, visibility, reliability and how much space they require at the helm.

Icom's own show announcement describes Southampton as an exclusive preview rather than a first-ever global reveal. That distinction matters because both products have appeared in Icom material previously; what is new for UK buyers is the opportunity to inspect the production-bound equipment in person ahead of wider availability.

IC-M430 brings a colour display to a compact fixed VHF

The IC-M430 is a 25-watt Class D DSC fixed marine VHF built around a compact fascia and a colour TFT display with Light, Dark and Night modes. Icom lists the radio at 202mm wide, 82mm high and 52.6mm deep, making the shallow body particularly relevant to helms where space behind the dash is limited.

Its integrated GNSS receiver supports an internal antenna, with an optional external antenna available where satellite reception is restricted. The radio also carries IPX7 waterproof protection, active noise cancelling, hailer and foghorn functions, and support for a remote CommandMic installation at a second station.

NMEA 2000 makes the VHF part of the wider helm network

The IC-M430 supports both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183-HS, allowing position and navigation data to move between the radio and compatible onboard electronics. Icom also specifies compatibility with AIS data so a selected AIS target can be used for an individual DSC call when the wider system is configured appropriately.

For owners refitting an older yacht, that network flexibility is important. A radio replacement is more useful when it can join the existing electronics architecture cleanly rather than forcing separate GPS feeds, duplicate sensors or awkward adapter arrangements.

MA-600TRBB moves Class B+ AIS into a black-box format

The MA-600TRBB is a Class B+ SOTDMA AIS transponder designed as a black-box installation rather than another display occupying helm space. Icom specifies 5-watt transmit power, an integrated antenna splitter and an external GNSS antenna supplied with the unit.

Connectivity includes NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183-HS and USB-C, while a Silent Mode allows transmissions to be suspended when appropriate. The integrated splitter is particularly useful on yachts where owners want to avoid adding another exposed VHF antenna solely for AIS, although the final installation still needs to follow Icom's antenna and cabling requirements.

Why the Southampton preview is useful to owners

Communication equipment is easy to judge by specifications alone, but ergonomics matter once it is built into a helm. Southampton gives owners and installers the chance to look at screen legibility, physical depth, connector placement and control layout before committing to a refit.
