Two members of one established family
The builder introduced the 490 Open and 490 Sport together in September 2024, describing different propulsion and length specifications. Its 2026 Cannes programme included the Open, not the Sport, alongside the newly launched 440 Open.
The 490 Sport is nevertheless relevant to prospective owners seeking a 15-metre walkaround with engines positioned aft rather than inboard IPS machinery. Treating the two models as interchangeable would hide the practical differences in servicing and boarding.
Three outboards change the package
FJORD lists three Mercury Verado V12 600hp outboards for the 490 Sport, with manufacturer-stated top speeds above 40 knots. Those figures are not independent sea-trial measurements and should not be transferred to the two-engine Open.
The published 3,000-litre Sport fuel capacity is also different from the 1,500 litres quoted for the Open. Tankage alone cannot predict range without load, speed and actual consumption, but it illustrates the distinct engineering brief.
Outdoor life across the walkaround deck
Both versions use a broad circulation plan, shade from a large T-top and generous sunpad and dining arrangements. Fold-down side balconies extend the area available at anchor while the narrow running configuration remains important at a berth.
The aft sunpad's adjustable forward section can become forward-facing seating for casual meals, demonstrating how furniture can change the use of one zone throughout a day. Safety procedures and clear access around the outboards must be assessed on the actual yacht.
Size and an owner decision
The initial maker specification states 15.32 metres overall for the Sport and a 4.58-metre beam, with category B approval. At that size the yacht falls securely inside LYG's 12.00–23.99-metre scope even when intended chiefly for coastal day trips.
This report uses a dedicated, official 490 Sport photograph, not the 490 Open image used elsewhere on LYG. Buyers should obtain the latest model specification and inspect engine access and bathing arrangements before comparing the two versions.
