Digital Yacht has launched veLINK to solve a common integration problem on increasingly electric yachts: Victron Energy equipment may already communicate over Bluetooth, while the helm and navigation network expects data in NMEA 2000. The new interface is designed to sit between those two ecosystems without requiring a separate wired connection to every Victron component.
Using Bluetooth Low Energy, veLINK can collect information from compatible chargers, battery monitors, shunts, solar controllers and inverters, then place that data onto the yacht’s NMEA 2000 network. Digital Yacht says the device can work with up to eight Victron products at the same time.
Bluetooth removes another layer of cabling
The attraction of the system is that many Victron products already broadcast their operating data over Bluetooth. Rather than running new signal cables through the boat, veLINK listens to those devices wirelessly and acts as the gateway that translates their information into the marine network used by multifunction displays.
That can simplify a retrofit where power equipment is distributed across lockers or machinery spaces. It does not remove the need for reliable NMEA 2000 cabling and power, but it may reduce the amount of additional wiring required to make energy data visible at the helm or on other compatible displays.
One bridge can represent several Victron devices
Digital Yacht says veLINK can connect with as many as eight compatible Victron units simultaneously. Each can be assigned its own instance and custom name, helping owners distinguish, for example, between a starter battery monitor, domestic bank, solar controller and charger rather than receiving an undifferentiated stream of electrical values.
That naming function is more important than it sounds on a yacht with several battery banks and charging sources. Clear identification reduces the chance of misreading which system is being monitored and makes it easier for owners, captains or technicians to discuss a fault using the same terminology shown on the onboard displays.
Alarms can move onto the yacht’s main displays
veLINK is also designed to pass configured Victron alarms through to NMEA 2000. Compatible multifunction displays can therefore present pop-up warnings generated by the power system, bringing electrical alerts into the same visual environment used for navigation and other vessel systems.
The practical benefit is quicker awareness, particularly on owner-operated yachts where nobody is continuously watching a separate battery application. It also means alarm strategy needs to be considered carefully, because poorly chosen thresholds can create nuisance warnings that make crews less likely to react promptly when a genuinely important alert appears.
Installation draws power from NMEA 2000
The interface itself is powered directly by the NMEA 2000 backbone. Digital Yacht describes installation as largely a matter of finding a spare network connection, adding the device and pairing it with the required Victron products, although installers still need to confirm network loading, device compatibility and signal reliability in the intended location.
Bluetooth performance can vary with distance, bulkheads and machinery spaces, so a simple electrical installation does not remove the need for a sensible physical position. A commissioning check should confirm that every paired device remains visible under normal onboard conditions rather than only while the installer is standing beside it with access panels open.
Energy management is moving closer to the helm
Luxury yachts below 24 metres are carrying more electrical loads as air conditioning, induction cooking, lithium battery banks, solar charging and larger inverter systems become common. Owners increasingly need to understand not just whether the batteries are charged, but how energy is moving through the entire system during cruising and time at anchor.
Putting Victron data onto NMEA 2000 helps make that information part of normal vessel operation rather than something hidden in a specialist application. The approach is especially relevant to yachts that already use multifunction displays as central dashboards for engines, tanks, navigation and switching.
Integration should make systems easier to understand
The strongest case for veLINK is not simply that more data can be displayed. Good integration should reduce the number of separate interfaces an owner has to remember, while still preserving enough detail for a technician to diagnose a problem when something goes wrong.
For buyers planning a refit, the product is therefore worth considering alongside the wider electrical architecture rather than as an isolated gadget. If the yacht already relies heavily on Victron equipment and NMEA 2000 displays, a wireless bridge between the two can make the power system more visible without adding another dedicated screen to the helm.
