Digital Yacht is demonstrating its new Njord Cloud and AI platform at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2026, bringing remote boat-data monitoring, NMEA 2000 diagnostics and an AI-assisted information layer into one system. The platform is designed to let owners, builders and technicians view selected onboard data in real time whether they are on the yacht or ashore.

The system uses Digital Yacht’s NjordLINK Plus hardware to connect directly to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network. From there, Njord Cloud can present navigation, engine, electrical and tank information alongside network diagnostic data, while the company says internet connectivity can be provided through Wi-Fi, 4G/5G or Starlink rather than a dedicated airtime plan.

Remote monitoring moves beyond simple position tracking

Many remote boat-monitoring systems begin with location, battery voltage or bilge alarms, but Digital Yacht is positioning Njord Cloud as a broader window into the vessel’s electronic network. Access to engine, tank, electrical and navigation information gives an owner a more complete picture of the yacht’s status before travelling to the marina or while leaving the boat unattended.

That wider data set is also relevant to fault finding. Digital Yacht says technicians can remotely view NMEA 2000 network information, creating the possibility of diagnosing some problems without first attending the boat. For owners of production yachts that may cruise between dealer territories, reducing unnecessary service visits could be as useful as the convenience of checking systems from home.

Different access levels are aimed at owners and builders

Remote access inevitably raises questions about who can see what, and Digital Yacht says Njord Cloud supports secured levels of access. The example given by the company is a boatbuilder that may need visibility across a fleet for technical support without automatically receiving access to an owner’s personal information.

That separation matters if connected-boat systems are to become part of routine after-sales support rather than an optional gadget. A builder can benefit from seeing diagnostic information, while an owner still needs control over private data and account access. The practical value will depend on how clearly those permissions are configured and explained during commissioning.

AI Captain uses live boat data to refine answers

Njord Cloud also introduces an AI Captain chatbot that can accept questions by voice or text. Digital Yacht says the system uses actual boat data to refine its answers, which means a question about onboard status can be answered with reference to the information currently available from the yacht rather than as a generic boating query.

The company has built the wider platform around a Gemini-based AI layer that can also combine boat information with weather, tide and port data. Digital Yacht says this includes information for both the vessel’s current port and destination, giving the system a role that extends from equipment monitoring into voyage preparation and day-to-day operational awareness.

Maintenance scheduling is another part of the proposition

Digital Yacht says Njord Cloud can build a suggested maintenance schedule using engine hours together with the boat’s type and age. That could turn data already present on the network into a more useful ownership tool, particularly for owners who do not keep detailed manual service logs or who share maintenance responsibility with a dealer or yard.

The important distinction is that the company describes the schedule as suggested rather than a replacement for manufacturer maintenance requirements. Engine makers, equipment suppliers and boatbuilders still define their own service intervals, so the useful role for an AI-assisted system is likely to be organising and surfacing those obligations rather than overriding technical documentation.

NjordLINK Plus is the onboard gateway

Digital Yacht says the onboard requirement is its NjordLINK Plus device, priced at £300 or €400 excluding VAT in the Cannes announcement. The unit connects to the NMEA network and is intended to work with leading navigation, monitoring and engine brands, allowing the cloud layer to sit above equipment from different manufacturers rather than requiring a completely proprietary electronics package.

For existing yachts, that compatibility is central to the product’s relevance. Owners are unlikely to replace a functioning navigation suite simply to add remote monitoring, whereas a gateway that can work with an established NMEA 2000 installation can potentially be added during a modest electronics upgrade. The real installation effort will still vary with the complexity and condition of each yacht’s network.

Cannes provides a live test of the connected-boat idea

A live demonstration is particularly useful for this type of product because the value is difficult to judge from a feature list alone; owners need to see how quickly data appears, how permissions are managed and whether the interface makes a complex onboard network easier to understand.
