A leadership change at a marine supplier

CMP Group appointed Michael Szwez chief executive officer in October 2026 as part of a revised leadership structure spanning North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The Canadian business makes and distributes products used in marine anchoring, steering, corrosion protection and docking.

Szwez brings approximately thirty years of marine industry experience and has held sales and marketing leadership roles within CMP since joining in 2016. The appointment is a company governance change, not a new equipment certification.

A range of specialised brands

CMP Group's portfolio includes Rocna and Vulcan anchors, Martyr anodes, Titan ground tackle, Dock Edge accessories, Panther products and Octopus steering systems. These categories serve different functions but share a need for consistent materials, installation guidance and reliable supply.

Owners should distinguish a company's portfolio from the specification fitted aboard their individual yacht. A recognised brand name does not establish the correct anchor size, steering actuator or corrosion-protection material for every boat.

Why distribution matters

A yacht operating between countries may need replacement anodes, anchoring hardware or steering components at short notice. Access to technical documentation and legitimate replacement parts can be more important than initial product availability at a nearby chandlery.

The new structure is intended to bring decisions closer to customers and regional markets. Its actual effect will depend on implementation, staffing and the availability of competent service partners.

Steering and physical reliability

Octopus steering products illustrate the interaction between digital helm controls and the mechanical equipment that turns a rudder or outboard. Reliable operation requires correct loads, alignment and appropriate emergency arrangements.

Electronic integration can enhance convenience, but a service technician must still understand the underlying mechanical system. Owners should ensure that essential steering functions can be diagnosed and maintained over the lifetime of the boat.

Anchoring and corrosion protection

Rocna and Vulcan anchors attract owners interested in ground-holding performance, while anodes are part of the wider approach to protecting underwater metals from galvanic corrosion. Both require correct specification and installation to perform as intended.

A marina berth, hull fittings and propeller material can influence corrosion-management needs. Anodes should be checked according to the actual underwater metal system rather than selected solely because a particular supplier is familiar.

The significance of the appointment

CMP says it is focused on customer experience, product quality, innovation and service. Those aims are particularly relevant to smaller yacht owners who depend on dealers and independent engineers rather than maintaining a large permanent crew.

The October announcement does not establish an immediate change in price, product performance or inventory. Future evidence of support quality and product development will give a better measure of the new leadership arrangement.

Practical owner considerations

Owners should seek detailed documentation before acting on a product announcement or changing the suppliers used aboard a yacht. The most useful information establishes compatibility, service arrangements and the responsibilities of the installer or manufacturer.

Developments in the marine industry may bring worthwhile benefits, but results should be evaluated against the needs and operating conditions of the individual vessel. Maintaining clear records can also make future inspections and repairs easier.
