Barcolana58 has added a Croatian approach race from Pula to Trieste for 9–10 October 2026. The Go To Barcolana From Croatia event uses a 150-nautical-mile route, a compulsory gate off Poreč and GPS tracking before crews arrive for the main Trieste sailing weekend.
A scheduled Friday start
The organiser specifies 09:00 on Friday 9 October from the marina of Pula, with the fleet expected into Trieste by 12:00 on Saturday 10 October. A mandatory gate off Poreč shapes the course rather than letting each skipper simply choose a direct track.
Registered crews receive GPS trackers for route monitoring, helping the organisers follow participating boats. Weather and the individual notice of race determine how the event actually unfolds.
Support on both shores
The organising club lists complimentary berthing at Marina Mandrač Pula on Thursday 8 October and a welcome gathering for crews. It also advertises complimentary post-finish berthing in Trieste and a Saturday prize-giving.
Those arrangements are specifically for eligible participating boats and dates, not open-ended complimentary marina access for every visiting yacht. Owners travelling independently must make their own berth plans.
An offshore test before the Autumn Cup
A 150-nautical-mile feeder offers longer navigation and team-management challenges than a short inshore race. Sail selection, watches and contingencies still depend on each crew's qualifications and the applicable event rules.
The organiser identifies Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, JK Vega and the Pula partner club in the event arrangements. Its course should not be treated as a recommended leisure passage regardless of conditions.
The link to Trieste's festival
The approach race concludes on Saturday 10 October, immediately ahead of the Barcolana Autumn Cup on Sunday 11 October. This creates a direct competitive route for Croatian participants to join the wider ten-day celebration.
