Azimut Yachts and Assets Group have agreed a strategic partnership that will place a dedicated fleet of 18 Azimut yachts into service in the Maldives. The agreement was signed during the Cannes Yachting Festival and extends the resort experience at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi and Rosewood Ranfaru Maldives onto the water.

The programme is notable not simply for the number of yachts involved, but for the way the partners are combining yacht ownership, hospitality and local technical support into one operating model. Assets Group says it will become the operator of what it describes as the largest private luxury-yacht fleet in the Indian Ocean.

Fifteen Magellano yachts form the core of the fleet

Of the 18 yachts planned for the Maldives, 15 will come from Azimut's Magellano series. The crossover range is designed around extended cruising and onboard living, making it a logical choice for moving resort guests between islands while also offering private cruising beyond the resort itself.

Azimut says the fleet will begin operating in 2026. The partnership is intended to make the yacht journey part of the hospitality experience rather than treating a boat purely as a transfer service, with personalised cruising integrated into stays at the two resorts.

New Azimut service centre planned for Malé

A new Azimut Service Center in Malé will support the fleet locally. The centre will be backed by Azimut's Italian team and Azimut Yachts Maldives powered by Elite Yachts, giving the programme a dedicated technical and after-sales base in the islands.

That service element is significant for a fleet operating continuously in a remote archipelago. Local maintenance capability, parts support and factory-backed technical expertise should reduce the need to move yachts out of the region for routine assistance and help keep more of the fleet available to guests.

A different distribution model for Azimut

Azimut|Benetti Group chief executive Marco Valle described the partnership as a strategic step in both distribution and brand positioning. Rather than relying solely on conventional private sales, the builder is placing a sizeable fleet inside an ultra-luxury hospitality ecosystem where guests can experience the yachts as part of their stay.

The model also gives Azimut a stronger operating presence in a market it already regards as high potential. For owners and buyers, the new Malé service centre is the more practical part of the announcement, because it expands factory-supported infrastructure in one of the world's most dispersed cruising destinations.

Maldives yachting moves closer to the resort experience

The agreement reflects a broader shift in luxury travel toward combining accommodation, mobility and experiences under one programme. In the Maldives, where movement between islands is already central to the guest journey, a dedicated yacht fleet gives the two resorts a way to extend that journey beyond their shorelines.

For Luxury Yacht Guide readers, the development is also a useful sign of how builders are finding new routes to market. An 18-yacht fleet backed by local service infrastructure is not a conventional dealer sale; it is a long-term operational partnership that places the yachts directly inside a premium travel product.
