Ameritool Manufacturing is preparing to show its American-made 316 stainless steel gas springs at IBEX in Tampa, with the organiser listing its announcement on 2 September 2026. These components are used to support hatches, lockers and lids, making specification and replacement important details in a cruising-yacht refit.
Why the material matters
Gas springs operate in exposed or damp areas of a yacht where corrosion and repeated movement affect service life. Ameritool offers 316 stainless steel models intended for demanding environments, but the correct construction is only one part of choosing a replacement.
Force, stroke, closed length, mounting orientation and end fittings must match the actual application. Installing a more powerful spring without assessment can overload a hinge or make a hatch difficult to close.
Fixed and adjustable choices
The manufacturer’s catalogue includes fixed-force and adjustable-force gas springs as well as tension designs that operate in the reverse direction. The maker also offers special configurations when a standard unit does not fit an unusual space.
A cockpit locker, engine-room hatch and tender storage lid can have very different load cases. Yard personnel should use measured dimensions and an installation drawing rather than assuming one product fits them all.
A role in yacht maintenance
On a 12–23.99m boat, a failed spring can affect safe access to machinery or storage even when it looks like a minor item. Replacement work should inspect the hinge, mounting brackets and adjacent structure at the same time.

October trade-show presentation
