A land-based stay beside a marina can be useful when a boating group has different ideas about sleeping aboard. At Woolverstone on the River Orwell, MDL’s Lodge Park places self-catering accommodation in 22 acres of parkland next to the working marina.

A range of lodge sizes

The operator lists lodges for four, six and eight guests, with open-plan living, kitchens, dedicated parking and bathroom arrangements varying by unit. The woodland setting provides walking and cycling options when a group would rather spend a day ashore.

A listed guest capacity is not proof that all cabins are equivalent, and pet policies differ by lodge. Visitors should select the actual accommodation plan before completing a booking.

The marina relationship

Woolverstone’s position on the River Orwell lets boating parties combine a stay ashore with access to their vessel, if a berth is separately reserved. The marina and its sailing services have their own operating arrangements independent of the holiday booking.

Length, beam, draft and local river conditions matter for a yacht between 12 and 23.99 metres. A lodge reservation does not automatically provide a marina berth or permission to arrive without arrangements.

A heritage-house alternative

The Cat House is a Grade II-listed property with four bedrooms and seven sleeping places, offered separately from the modern lodges. It gives a larger group a different setting with gardens and period architecture.

MDL says annual berth holders can ask for a ten-percent accommodation benefit and eligible Otium members may use points when booking directly. Terms and availability need confirming for the proposed dates.

A practical Suffolk weekend

A stay can centre on river walks, relaxed meals and time on a suitable boat rather than continuous travel. Local waterways bring tidal and navigational considerations, so an itinerary should be planned with the harbour information for the actual vessel.
