A second colour for the Roadster luggage
Porsche Design has expanded its Roadster Aluminum luggage family with a Black finish alongside the existing Silver cases. The company also introduced a programme of interchangeable and individually configured components. The announcement is about a physical luggage collection, not a new sports car or a change to Porsche's automotive line-up.
The Roadster series takes inspiration from the Porsche 911 Targa, particularly its brushed-metal roll bar and the way a structural component becomes a recognisable design signature. Bringing that reference into a suitcase gives the product a clear identity without copying a vehicle's outline. The black option offers a more discreet alternative to the reflective silver exterior.
Construction borrows from vehicle design
The cases use pressed aluminium front and rear shells mounted on a stabilising frame. Porsche Design describes their clean appearance as the result of a construction that avoids visible traditional corner joints and rivets. The design is intended to convey structural precision as well as a restrained look.
Metal cases have a distinctive feel and appearance, but travellers should consider their weight and how a surface may acquire marks with repeated handling. Luggage faces impacts and abrasion in airports, hotels and transfers. A carefully finished shell still needs to operate reliably when repeatedly placed in overhead compartments or baggage holds.
Personalisation in three areas
Buyers can choose leather carrying handles, a leather luggage tag and wheel sets in six colours: Black, Dark Blue, Silver, Grey, Carmine Red and Cognac. The ability to combine these elements allows a subtle monochrome configuration or a more visible contrast. Handles are supplied as pairs, while the wheel kits comprise sets of four.
An individualised product is useful only if the components remain serviceable. Customers should confirm whether replacements can be ordered in the future and whether fitting needs a specialist. Porsche Design specifies that the leather handles are installed in its stores, an operational consideration for travellers who do not live near one of the locations.
Familiar travel functions remain
The trolley retains a telescopic handle designed to retract into the shell and a TSA lock initially set to 911. The main interior includes a divider, cross straps and a packing plate intended to organise contents. An integrated folding bag provides additional space when needed, although the extra bag should not be assumed to increase airline baggage allowances.
Different travellers need different interior layouts. Those moving between short business trips and extended holidays may find separate cabin and hold sizes useful, but should verify actual dimensions before ordering. A product's design inspiration does not establish that a specific case is accepted as carry-on by every airline.
Prices for individual components
At the April 2026 introduction, Porsche Design listed the leather name tag at €45 and a set of two leather handles at €59. Wheel sets were advertised at €59 for the small cabin case or €69 for medium and large sizes. These were published component prices rather than one all-inclusive figure for a customised suitcase.
Prices, availability and installation terms can change, and the appropriate set depends on the case size. Shoppers should therefore check the official catalogue and whether an existing Roadster Aluminum case is eligible for a particular part. Modifying luggage without confirming compatibility may cause avoidable difficulties with servicing.
Luxury travel and a recognisable object
Personalised luggage can make it easier to recognise a case at a transfer point while allowing an owner to match a travel wardrobe. The Roadster programme gives that idea a more systematic form than attaching a generic charm. Black and Silver cases can be paired with different fittings without requiring a wholly different luggage design.
The verified announcement is a new black finish and a set of configurable components added to an existing family. Its strongest practical distinction is the opportunity to combine appearance with replaceable functional parts. Buyers should assess the weight, wheels, handles and warranty as carefully as the automotive reference.
