Penton Hook Adds 18 Long-Boat Berths and Weekend Street Food

MDL Marinas has expanded Penton Hook on the River Thames with 18 berths intended for barges and narrowboats up to 20 metres, while refreshing visitor facilities and adding a rotating food initiative. The development introduces new long-boat capacity within part of Luxury Yacht Guide's 12.00–23.99-metre range.

Not every 20-metre vessel has the beam, draft or construction appropriate for these berths, and the announcement identifies barges and narrowboats rather than a general motor-yacht allocation. Owners should confirm suitability directly before making the marina part of a Thames itinerary.

A changed pontoon arrangement

The operator reconfigured X Pontoon with nine angled 14-metre pontoons, creating 18 positions for qualifying inland craft. Its July announcement anticipated completion in August, with individual availability to be confirmed by the marina.

This offers a longer-term mooring option on a stretch of river used for cruising towards Runnymede and Windsor. An owner must check any lock, bridge and navigation limits for the proposed vessel, not simply the advertised berth length.

Shore facilities receive attention too

MDL has also updated showers and washrooms with new finishes, heating and lighting, and refreshed the outside of the buildings. Such upgrades can influence how comfortably owners and guests use a river base across a full weekend.

The operator's Fresh Off the Hook programme brings independent food vendors to the site on weekends. Menus and dates vary, so the current line-up should be checked instead of assuming a permanent restaurant service.

An inland alternative to the coast

Penton Hook can support slower Thames journeys with stops ashore rather than an open-sea cruising schedule. That is a different experience from a Mediterranean marina but still relevant to appropriately configured 12–20-metre private craft.
