Oxford Witney Hotel is expected to join the JdV by Hyatt portfolio by the end of 2026, becoming the brand’s first UK property. The 130-room hotel sits around 15 miles west of Oxford and within reach of the Cotswolds, positioning it as a base for countryside weekends as well as city visits.
Witney provides an alternative to staying in central Oxford
The hotel sits within walking distance of Witney’s historic centre, giving guests a market-town base instead of a city-centre address. Oxford remains close enough for a day out, while the Cotswolds open in the other direction for villages, countryside walks and longer drives.
That position can work well for a relaxed weekend by car. Parking and road access become easier than they often are in central Oxford, while guests retain the option to spend a full day in the university city before returning to a quieter town in the evening.
The redesign will draw on local wool-making heritage
Hyatt says the transformation will take inspiration from Witney’s long association with wool making and from the Arts and Crafts movement. Done well, that should give the interiors more local character than a conventional refurbishment built around neutral colours and generic furniture.
The JdV brand is intended to be locally influenced, so this is an important part of the project rather than decorative storytelling. Materials, patterns and artwork can make the connection feel convincing without turning the hotel into a themed version of the past.
Food and events are being kept practical
Plans include a restaurant and bar using local suppliers, plus 1,205 square feet of flexible meeting and event space for groups of up to 90. That is enough to support celebrations and small business events without changing the property into a conference-led hotel.
For leisure guests, local sourcing is more relevant than an oversized list of outlets. A good breakfast, useful bar and restaurant capable of reflecting Oxfordshire produce can support a weekend itinerary while leaving plenty of reason to eat elsewhere in Witney and nearby villages.
The surrounding area offers an easy mixed itinerary
Witney has a twice-weekly market, independent shops and the Corn Exchange, while Cogges Manor Farm, the River Windrush and Witney Lake provide local outings. Blenheim Palace and Minster Lovell Hall add further options without requiring a long drive.
That variety is what makes the planned JdV conversion relevant to LYG’s lifestyle brief. It is an upper-upscale weekend base built around accessible culture, food and countryside rather than a high-end resort where the hotel itself dominates the trip.
