A weekend on a sheltered Norwegian fjord provided both sailing practice and a chance to meet crews from across the region. World Sailing reported the RS Venture Sail Camp held at Ulabrand Sail Centre, welcoming sailors from Oslo, Hamar, Kristiansand, Fredrikstad and Tallinn.
Different starting points, one shared activity
Participants brought a range of sailing experience and individual needs to the camp. Coaches helped crews work on boat handling, sail use and manoeuvres over two days, with an inclusive programme at the heart of the gathering.
An organised training camp differs from an open sailing holiday. Future availability and suitability need checking directly with the organisers rather than inferred from this completed event.
Learning in changing wind
The report describes good wind on the opening day and trickier conditions on the second, giving sailors opportunities to work on gennaker handling and gybes. The setting offered a practical rather than purely classroom account of how a boat responds.
A skipper should not equate a successful training exercise with permission to attempt the same manoeuvre on an unfamiliar yacht. Rig and crew capability must be considered separately.
Experienced coaches in support
World Sailing identifies national-team sailors Stian and Elliot working alongside head coach Thomas Nilsson. It also describes cross-border participation supported through Nordic cooperation, with experience shared between local and Estonian groups.
A well-organised activity benefits from clear communication and the right assistance ashore as well as instruction underway. Access requirements and equipment should be discussed for each participant.
A broader Scandinavian travel idea
Norway’s fjord landscape rewards time outdoors and can complement a coastal cruise with a contrasting small-boat experience. A suitable private yacht itinerary still depends on berthing, weather and navigational planning.
