Mercedes-Benz has opened orders for the C 300 4MATIC electric, broadening the new electric C-Class line-up with a lower-priced all-wheel-drive model. It combines up to 690 kilometres of WLTP range with 320 kW DC charging, optional air suspension and rear-wheel steering, giving premium-car buyers another credible option for long-distance European travel.

An 85kWh battery targets 690 kilometres of range

The C 300 4MATIC electric uses an 85 kWh usable battery and twin-motor all-wheel drive, with a peak output of 310 kW and 800 Nm of torque. Mercedes quotes a WLTP range of up to 690 kilometres, while energy consumption is rated between 17.8 and 14.1 kWh per 100 kilometres depending on specification.

Its 800-volt electrical system supports DC charging at up to 320 kW. Under suitable conditions, Mercedes says ten minutes can add as much as 290 kilometres of WLTP range, while a 10-to-80 per cent charge takes around 22 minutes. That is the kind of charging performance that matters on real touring days rather than just short urban trips.

Air suspension and rear steering are available

The electric C-Class can be ordered with AIRMATIC air suspension to smooth poor surfaces and adapt damping, while optional rear-axle steering reduces the turning circle and improves stability at higher speeds. The 4MATIC system engages the front motor only when extra traction is required, helping conserve energy during normal cruising.

That combination should appeal to owners who spend time moving between cities, airports, marinas and mountain destinations, where comfort and manoeuvrability often matter more than headline acceleration. The C 300 still reaches 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, so performance is hardly lacking.

The cabin moves further toward a digital lounge

A 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen dominates the dashboard, running Mercedes-Benz Operating System software and supporting navigation, entertainment, charging functions and downloadable digital services. The virtual assistant is designed for more natural conversation, while optional electric seats add massage, ventilation and 4D sound.

Practicality has not been forgotten. The saloon provides a 470-litre rear boot and a further 101 litres under the bonnet, while braked towing capacity reaches 1,800 kilograms. That gives the car more flexibility for leisure use than many premium electric saloons.

German pricing starts below the C 400 4MATIC

Mercedes lists the C 300 4MATIC electric from €62,951 including German VAT, compared with €67,711 for the more powerful C 400 4MATIC. Further rear-wheel-drive versions and battery choices are planned, which should widen the price and range spread again.

For LYG readers, the significance is that high-speed charging and long EV range are moving into a familiar premium saloon rather than remaining concentrated in expensive flagship models. The C-Class has long been a practical luxury choice; this version makes the electric alternative easier to use for exactly the same sort of everyday and holiday travel.
