Jaguar has unveiled the production Type 01, the car intended to define the British marque’s new luxury era. The electric four-door grand tourer arrives with up to 1,030PS, 1,365Nm of torque and an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, placing design, performance and long-distance usability at the centre of Jaguar’s return to the upper luxury market.
The car is built on a dedicated Jaguar Electrical Architecture rather than adapting an existing JLR platform. That freedom allowed the design and engineering teams to pursue the low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang and extended rear proportions that made the earlier Type 00 concept deliberately unlike most electric sedans.
A new platform was created around the proportions
Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications are associated with Type 01, illustrating how much of the car had to be developed specifically for the programme. The body rides on 23-inch wheels and uses active aerodynamic devices including Active Vanes and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler to reach a drag coefficient of 0.23.
The engineering goal was not simply to make the most efficient shape possible. Jaguar wanted a recognisable grand-touring silhouette first and then used wind-tunnel work and active systems to recover the aerodynamic performance needed for an electric car expected to cover substantial distances between charges.
Tri-motor power makes it the strongest road Jaguar yet
The tri-motor drivetrain produces up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm, making Type 01 the most powerful road-going Jaguar to date. Jaguar quotes 0–62mph in 3.2 seconds and 62–112mph in 4.0 seconds, while Intelligent Torque Vectoring distributes output to support traction and the 50:50 weight balance.
Development also drew on knowledge from Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E programme. The road car is not positioned as a track-focused EV, but the transfer of software, energy-management and dynamic-control experience gives the brand a way to connect its competition activity with the character of the new luxury GT.
The battery aims to remove range anxiety from grand touring
A 118kWh usable battery is paired with an 850-volt electrical architecture. Jaguar expects an EPA range of up to 400 miles and says the car can add as much as 200 miles in around 13 minutes when connected to a suitable 350kW rapid charger.
Those numbers matter because Type 01 is being sold as a grand tourer rather than an urban luxury statement. Sustained motorway travel, destination charging and predictable high-speed efficiency will therefore be as important to owners as peak acceleration figures when the first customer cars begin real-world use.
The cabin is organised as four individual spaces
A central spine runs through the interior, dividing the cabin into four defined seating zones and using brass-effect anodised aluminium to emphasise the car’s length. A single-glass 24-inch OLED driver display is supported by a seven-inch central touchscreen for frequently used functions.
Jaguar has also developed an Immersive Sound System with a full-width Panoramic Soundbar and Sensory Audio seats. Type 01 will be designed, engineered and built in Britain, with orders opening in early 2027 and production beginning later that year, making the car the first true test of whether Jaguar’s dramatic reinvention can translate from concept language into sustained customer demand.
