A cruising holiday often moves from the yacht to a trail, a dive or a day exploring an unfamiliar coastline. Garmin's new fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro extend its multisport watch range with navigation and activity tools, while the Pro adds satellite and LTE communication features for supported services.
Announced on 25 August, the new models also introduce Garmin Epic, which can combine multiple activities into a shareable story in Garmin Connect. The communication functions and coverage must be checked by model, subscription and region.
A watch for more than one itinerary
Garmin positions the range around outdoor maps, multisport recording and improved stamina information. The models support diving features, but divers must review the specific mode and depth limits rather than infer unrestricted use from a case rating.
For a yacht owner, the practical value may lie in moving from coastal running to swimming and hiking without changing devices. It remains an accessory, not a replacement for approved navigation or safety gear on the boat.
Where the Pro differs
The fēnix 9 Pro includes built-in satellite and LTE functions that enable supported voice, text and SOS communication away from ordinary mobile coverage. Availability depends on an active service and suitable conditions, and no wrist device guarantees a successful connection everywhere.
Garmin's press release describes the Pro's titanium case and a larger AMOLED display as part of its updated design. Buyers should compare actual dimensions and battery performance for the particular watch size.
A considered addition to the travel kit
