BMW is giving the new X5 and first electric iX5 two distinct accessory paths from launch: visual and aerodynamic M Performance parts, and practical equipment for travel. The combination reflects the way large luxury SUVs are actually used, mixing personalisation with long-distance utility.
For owners who move between city use, airport runs and holidays, the practical range may be as relevant as the carbon-fibre details. BMW is treating luggage, devices and exterior storage as part of the ownership experience rather than aftermarket additions.
M Performance changes the exterior
The M Performance range includes front trims, splitters, roof spoilers and rear diffuser elements designed specifically for the X5 and iX5. Carbon fibre and aramid are used where low weight and a technical appearance are priorities.
Aramid is particularly useful around areas that contain sensors because electromagnetic waves can pass through it. That allows a carbon-like visual effect without interfering with vehicle electronics.
Wheel choices extend to 23 inches
Summer and winter wheel packages range from 21 to 23 inches, including a new 23-inch Y-spoke design in a bicolour Jet Black finish. The wheels give buyers a straightforward way to change stance and appearance without altering the basic vehicle.
BMW also plans a specific M Performance silencer system for the future V8-powered M Performance version. Carbon-fibre tailpipe finishers will provide a matching visual treatment.
Roof storage becomes more aerodynamic
New Aero roof boxes are offered in 350-, 450- and 550-litre sizes, each with 30 litres more volume than its predecessor. BMW pairs them with fitted luggage intended to use the available space more efficiently.
A rear transport box adds another 300 litres when mounted to the cycle-carrier system. For touring owners, these details are more useful than cosmetic options because they increase real holiday capacity.
Rear-seat devices get better support
The Travel & Comfort System adds tablet holders and a smartphone adapter to the backs of the front seats. The Pro tablet holder provides extra adjustment, while the phone adapter is designed for devices up to seven inches.
This kind of equipment is increasingly important in premium family transport, where passengers expect the cabin to support work and entertainment. BMW’s accessory strategy therefore spans both the visual and practical sides of ownership.
