BMW is updating the X3 M50 xDrive for December 2026 with a new Black Package and a stronger 3.0-litre straight-six engine. Power rises to 326kW, or 443hp, while the package adds darker exterior detailing, 22-inch wheels and a more richly finished Alcantara cabin aimed at buyers who want one car to cover city use, long-distance travel and weekend escapes.
The straight-six now produces 443hp
BMW has increased output from the 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo straight-six by 33kW, taking total power to 326kW or 443hp. The engine retains 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, while BMW quotes a 0-100km/h time of 4.4 seconds for the revised X3 M50 xDrive.
That level of performance gives the X3 enough pace for buyers who enjoy a genuinely quick car without moving into a more compromised high-performance SUV. For owners travelling between a city home, airport, marina or country hotel, the appeal is strong acceleration combined with the practicality of a mid-size premium crossover.
The Black Package is mostly about restrained visual drama
The optional Black Package adds 22-inch Polygon 1134 M wheels, high-gloss black brake callipers, darker badges and additional motorsport-inspired exterior details. BMW has kept the treatment relatively cohesive, avoiding the need for oversized body additions or an aggressively modified silhouette.
That restraint suits the LYG lifestyle audience because the car can still work in formal and leisure settings. It looks more distinctive outside a waterfront hotel or marina, yet remains usable as a normal premium family vehicle during the working week.
Alcantara gives the cabin a more tailored feel
Inside, BMW extends Alcantara across the instrument-panel area, door trims and centre-console armrest, complemented by blue stitching and piping. The package also includes M-specific seat treatment, darker trim and selected CraftedClarity glass controls that add a more tactile premium finish.
For longer journeys, these details matter more than dramatic exterior styling because the cabin is where owners spend their time. The X3 already offers enough luggage space for weekend travel, and the richer materials make the interior feel closer to BMW's larger luxury models without substantially increasing the car's footprint.
December updates extend beyond the M50
BMW says the whole X3 range will receive targeted interior improvements from December 2026, including revised dashboard surfaces, ambient lighting around selected storage areas and updated trim details. The 443hp power increase, however, applies specifically to the M50 xDrive.
The result is a useful middle ground for drivers who want one premium SUV to handle daily life and leisure travel. It is not an exotic collector car, but it fits the practical high-luxury brief well: fast, comfortable, discreet enough for everyday use and capable of carrying people and luggage to a weekend destination.
