Bar Bota at Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has released a new collection of twelve drinks inspired by Japanese ingredients and botanical traditions. The programme contains nine cocktails and three mocktails, with additional micro-seasonal recipes planned on a changing basis.
The bar occupies the hotel's 37th floor and is built around a circular counter with city views. Its new menu aims to connect the experience of a cocktail with the story of the ingredients it contains.
A botanical journal in the glass
Each drink arrives with a tracing-paper illustration of its principal flavours, referencing old botanical journals. Bar manager Maxime Verrier and the team have used that visual approach to explain the relationships between ingredients.
Sake, red shiso salt and yuzu kosho feature in the wider collection alongside fruits, leaves and spices. The menu's organising idea is botanical identity rather than an arbitrary list of experimental drinks.
The Botatini takes a Japanese turn
The Botatini combines Japanese gin, vermouth and sake, then softens the drink with a cold-brew bamboo-leaf infusion. It is a dry martini interpretation that draws on juniper and rice flavours.
The result is intended to sit naturally alongside the bar's food rather than function only as a standalone aperitif. Its recipe illustrates the restrained side of the collection.
Yuzu kosho becomes a sour
The Yuzu Kosho Sour uses a Japanese seasoning of citrus peel, chilli and salt as part of a bright, lightly spicy drink. Blue agave and sugar-maple elements support the mix.
The cocktail provides a contrast to the Botatini by making citrus and gentle heat more prominent. The bar's additional mocktails give visitors a non-alcoholic option within the same botanical concept.
Changing with Japan's microseasons
Bar Bota plans to rotate other drinks monthly around regional ingredients at their peak. That allows regular visitors to experience changes beyond the core twelve-recipes menu.
Guests can also select domestic spirits and food with modern Kansai influences. The announcement confirms a new standing collection, while individual seasonal items may change with availability.
