The new 70 starts with a revised hull
Viking says the design team began again rather than simply updating the previous 70. The hull continues the length-to-beam progression developed on the 74, 82 and 90, while the new 70 is three inches narrower than the second-generation 68 to improve ride quality and efficiency.
Changes to deadrise, chine position and strake geometry are intended to produce a smoother, drier ride. These are subtle technical adjustments, but they are central to how a performance yacht behaves offshore and can matter more in real use than headline styling changes.
Four staterooms and five heads fill the interior
The 70 Convertible is arranged with four staterooms and five heads, giving the yacht genuine long-range cruising and tournament capability for owners travelling with family, guests or crew. Viking says the interior was developed to feel larger without compromising the proportions required for offshore performance.
At 21.59m, that accommodation level is notable. The model approaches the scale of much larger yachts internally while remaining below the 24m threshold that separates LYG’s market from the superyacht sector.
Fuel capacity supports serious offshore use
Standard fuel capacity is quoted at 2,027 US gallons, with an optional increase to 2,530 gallons. Water capacity is 345 gallons, while the yacht’s standard-fuel displacement is listed at 53,751kg.
Those figures reinforce the model’s purpose as a genuine bluewater platform. Owners are being given the range and onboard capacity required for long fishing trips and extended coastal cruising rather than a yacht designed mainly for short marina-to-marina runs.
The 70 is also planned in additional bridge formats
Viking is extending the platform beyond the open-bridge Convertible, with Enclosed Bridge and Sky Bridge versions also part of the 70 programme. That mirrors the company’s strategy on larger models, where owners can choose the helm and upper-deck configuration that best fits climate and use.
For LYG readers, the second-generation 70 is one of the most substantial production yachts still comfortably inside the under-24m category. Its combination of offshore design, large accommodation plan and multiple bridge formats makes it an important new model for the 2026 market.
