The MJM 47X offers two ways to cruise
MJM Yachts continues to position the 47X as an open-bow luxury adventure cruiser for owners who want to combine day boating with longer journeys. The company's updated model presentation describes both outboard and diesel-drive configurations, giving buyers different approaches to performance and ownership.
The boat forms part of MJM's X Series, a family designed around flexible entertaining and access to the water. Unlike a new world premiere, the latest information concerns the current model and its available specification.
A 46-foot-eight-inch platform
MJM lists the 47X at 46 feet 8 inches overall, with a beam of 12 feet and a length on deck of 42 feet 7 inches. The dimensions place the boat in the owner-operated luxury-cruiser category, between compact day boats and substantially larger crewed yachts.
Its hull form is intended to support fast passages without compromising daily usability. Prospective buyers should confirm the draft and weight applicable to their intended propulsion package.
Two propulsion approaches
The manufacturer's product information includes twin Mercury 600hp V12 Verado outboards and a Volvo D6 440hp diesel installation with DPI drives. These alternatives may appeal to owners with different priorities for engine access, service networks and onboard space.
MJM describes the 47X as capable of exceeding 50mph in suitable configurations. That performance should not be interpreted as an identical guaranteed maximum speed for every engine choice or load.
An open bow for social occasions
Unlike traditional closed-bow pilothouse cruisers, the 47X includes forward seating and a filler cushion to make the area more usable. Storage beneath the seating helps accommodate the items needed for an afternoon on the water.
The open configuration can be attractive for friends and family during fair weather. Passengers still need to follow safe seating and movement procedures whenever the boat is underway.
A protected pilothouse
The integrated fibreglass pilothouse has broad windows, electrically opening forward glass and sliding side windows. This arrangement allows guests to remain connected with the sea while having shelter when wind or spray increases.
Owners who travel outside the peak summer months may value that balance. A protected helm makes a journey more pleasant, but it does not remove the need for cautious navigation in rough conditions.
Overnight comfort below deck
The boat's lower accommodation includes a queen-sized forward V-berth that converts to a seating arrangement. An enclosed bathroom with a glass shower adds comfort for longer days or occasional nights away.
MJM has also enlarged port-side cabin storage in the updated model. Buyers should evaluate the berth dimensions and available storage during an actual walkthrough, particularly if overnight travel is a priority.
A cockpit built for gatherings
An L-shaped cockpit lounge and dual serving bars provide a sociable area behind the helm. The design emphasises shared space and comfortable conversation rather than maximum sleeping capacity.
The galley-up arrangement helps keep food preparation connected to outdoor entertaining. Detailed equipment options, including refrigeration and finishing materials, should be checked against the individual boat being ordered.
Composite construction
MJM builds the 47X in North Carolina using vacuum-infused epoxy composite construction and a modified deep-V hull. The process is intended to balance low weight, strength and responsive handling, continuing the yard's Downeast design heritage.
The official specification lists approximately 17,730 pounds displacement. Actual weight can vary with installed equipment, fuel and stores, so operators should calculate loading carefully.
Navigation and close-quarters control
Twin Garmin GPSMAP 8616 displays provide an integrated navigation interface, while joystick systems are available for the listed propulsion configurations. A 475-US-gallon fuel capacity gives room for planning longer outings.
Actual range cannot be calculated from tank capacity alone, and fuel burn must be confirmed for the chosen engine arrangement. Skippers should understand how electronic assistance operates and maintain full responsibility at the helm.
Considering an MJM for 2027
The builder showcased the 47X among its 2027 models during its September customer event in New Bern, North Carolina. Its current presentation highlights the boat's combination of open social spaces, protected steering and overnight practicality.
Prospective owners should discuss current availability, individual prices and warranty support directly with the company. The manufacturer's online specifications and photographs provide the factual basis for comparing its two propulsion approaches.
