The 46 Powercat represents Leopard’s motor-yacht side at Genoa
Leopard lists the 46 Powercat alongside the Leopard 43 for its Genoa Boat Show display from 1 to 6 October. The power model is aimed at owners who want the volume and stability of a catamaran without the sailing systems and rig associated with Leopard’s cruising sailboats.
That distinction is increasingly relevant because power catamarans are no longer a niche charter choice. Private owners are using them for family cruising where deck area, shallow draft and steady behaviour at anchor matter more than the narrow beam and higher top speeds of some monohulls.
Twin hulls create several separate living zones
The catamaran platform allows accommodation and machinery to be distributed between two hulls while the bridge deck carries the saloon and social spaces. This creates natural separation between cabins and gives designers more width for indoor-outdoor living areas.
For families spending several days aboard, that separation can improve privacy significantly. Different groups can occupy cockpit, saloon, foredeck and accommodation spaces without the entire yacht feeling centred on one narrow passageway.
Beam is the key ownership trade-off
The same width that creates the Leopard’s generous volume also affects marina planning. Catamaran berths can be less widely available and may be priced differently, so owners need to consider where the yacht will be based before treating additional beam as an unqualified advantage.
On the other hand, wider stance can improve stability at rest and provide more usable deck area for the same overall length. Owners cruising between anchorages may value those benefits more than buyers who expect to spend most nights alongside in crowded Mediterranean marinas.
Genoa begins a busy autumn show schedule
After Genoa, Leopard’s current show programme includes Barcelona, Bodrum, Annapolis and Fort Lauderdale. The 46 Powercat therefore enters a period of sustained exposure across both European and American markets rather than relying on one launch event.
For prospective buyers, repeated show appearances create opportunities to compare the model in different settings and speak with regional support teams. Service coverage and local dealer competence are especially important for owners who plan to cruise far from the yacht’s original delivery point.
