Henri-Lloyd has become official clothing partner of UPWIND, the offshore sailing development programme created by MerConcept. The initiative aims to give emerging women sailors access to professional coaching and racing experience, while the apparel agreement supplies athletes and their support team.

An offshore development pathway

UPWIND was developed with founding sponsor 11th Hour Racing to connect promising sailors with experience at the highest level of the sport. The programme provides coaching, technical learning, performance analysis and practical offshore competition rather than simply an apparel endorsement.

MerConcept was founded by François Gabart, whose offshore-racing experience shapes the programme. This partnership is for a development team and is not an announcement of a new production yacht.

A clothing and equipment role

Henri-Lloyd says it will supply technical outerwear and performance clothing to sailors and support staff. Layering for an offshore team involves movement, weather exposure, repeated use and the ability to work around the boat safely.

A brand’s involvement does not prove a particular garment meets every commercial crew or racing requirement. Individual sailors must select and maintain clothing appropriate to the passage and applicable safety rules.

Why it matters to the yacht sector

Skills developed through long-distance sailing can transfer to seamanship, navigation and teamwork aboard a cruising yacht. The value of a structured pathway lies in sustained opportunities and experience rather than a single event photograph.

Owners of 12–23.99m sailing yachts may follow emerging talent and equipment trends, but a professional offshore race programme has a different operating brief from family cruising. Specific lessons should be applied proportionately.

An August partnership
