Twelve consecutive years underline installer confidence
Garmin first received the NMEA Manufacturer of the Year distinction in 2015 and has now retained the title for 12 consecutive years. The award is voted on within the marine-electronics community, including dealers, certified installers and industry professionals who work directly with navigation and onboard systems.
For luxury-yacht owners, that professional perspective matters because electronics performance is judged not only by specifications but also by installation quality, serviceability and long-term support. A broad installed base can also make it easier to find knowledgeable technicians when cruising away from a yacht’s home marina.
Six product categories added further recognition
The 2026 Product of Excellence results covered six distinct Garmin products or systems. Awards went to the GPSMAP 9227 multifunction display, Reactor 40 Hydraulic Autopilot with SmartPump v2, Garmin OnBoard safety system, LiveScope Plus sonar, Cortex M1 AIS hub and inReach Mini 3 satellite communicator.
That spread illustrates how integrated modern helm systems have become, with navigation, steering, safety and communications increasingly expected to work as one connected environment. Owners comparing refit packages should therefore consider system-wide compatibility and support rather than evaluating a chartplotter or autopilot in isolation.
Flagship displays and autopilot remain core yacht equipment
The GPSMAP 9227 is a 27-inch integrated 4K touchscreen chartplotter, while the Reactor 40 Hydraulic Autopilot combines Garmin’s heading-reference technology with the SmartPump v2. Garmin says its multifunction-display category has now won for 12 consecutive years and its autopilot category for 14 years.
Large integrated displays are particularly relevant on 12-to-24-metre yachts, where helm space is valuable but owners still expect clear presentation of charts, radar, engine data and cameras. Reliable autopilot performance can also reduce workload during longer coastal passages when conditions demand sustained attention.
Safety and communications complete the electronics picture
The Garmin OnBoard system won the marine-safety-device category for a second year, while the Cortex M1 hub extended Garmin’s AIS-category run and the inReach Mini 3 took the satellite-communications-antenna award. Together they reflect growing owner interest in connected safety systems that extend beyond basic navigation.
Luxury Yacht Guide treats these awards as useful industry evidence rather than a substitute for vessel-specific engineering advice. Equipment selection still depends on the yacht’s electrical architecture, cruising area, helm layout and existing network, so owners should confirm compatibility with an experienced marine-electronics installer before committing to a refit.
