A proposed partnership for marine textiles

US fastening supplier Fasnap and Dutch manufacturer SUREFAS have reached an agreement in principle to introduce four SUREFAS fastener ranges to the American market. Announced on 7 October 2026, the arrangement covers Q-SNAP, PERFIX, CAF-316 and CAF-COMPO products, with distribution and technical support expected through Fasnap's US network. The agreement is planned rather than formally completed, so final trading terms and availability remain open.

The two companies expect to finalise the partnership before the ATA Expo in Orlando, running from 3 to 5 November, and say customers could begin receiving the broader range in January 2027. Those dates are intentions, not evidence that retail stock is already available. Owners and refit managers should wait for confirmed distributor details before committing to a winter project.

Why fittings deserve attention on a yacht

Fasteners appear small beside engines and navigation equipment, but poor connections can quickly undermine an otherwise well-fitted canvas installation. Cockpit awnings, weather covers, exterior cushions and removable privacy panels are repeatedly opened, tensioned and exposed to salt water. A fastener must therefore balance holding strength, easy release and corrosion resistance.

Q-SNAP is a lever-assisted secure press fastener intended for tightly fitted covers and technical fabrics. The supplier states that it can be installed up to three times faster than some other secure fastening systems, but that is a manufacturer's comparison and not independently verified for every workshop or cover design.

Four materials and fixing approaches

The PERFIX system avoids protruding pins and uses corrosion-resistant plastic in several colours. CAF-316 is a more conventional press fastener made from 316 stainless steel, with a specified stainless spring. These approaches address different requirements, from a smooth profile against upholstery to demanding exterior exposure.

CAF-COMPO takes a separate route as a self-tapping composite screw stud for fibreglass, timber and related substrates, with an M6 version intended for metal mounting. None of these details automatically establishes that a product suits every yacht's laminate, deck construction or expected load. Fabricators should check installation advice, isolation requirements and substrate strength.

Refit implications before the 2027 rollout

Owners of 12–23.99-metre yachts often undertake targeted canvas and upholstery updates rather than replacing an entire exterior scheme. New fastener options may allow a refit company to solve recurring difficulties with tight covers or snagging hardware while retaining existing fabric where appropriate. Matching old hole locations and limiting unnecessary drilling can be particularly important.

The practical question is whether a fastening system can be specified, installed and supported consistently throughout the life of the cover. Fasnap's proposed US distribution could make sourcing easier once finalised. Until then, the announcement should be regarded as a forthcoming supply arrangement rather than an available-stock guarantee.
